Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, an artificial intelligence agent designed to identify tasks and begin working on them before users explicitly request assistance. Available as a standalone application, the tool can monitor connected apps, flag pending work, prepare daily summaries and handle tasks in the background.

The service is initially being offered as a research preview to selected users in the United States. Built around Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 model, Claude Duet is aimed at professionals and small business owners who regularly manage emails, meetings, reports and deadlines.

The goal is to make everyday digital work easier by preparing useful information in advance. Users could start their day with a summary of important emails, scheduled meetings and tasks that may need immediate attention.

What Is Claude Duet and How Does It Work?

Unlike a conventional chatbot, which generally waits for users to enter a prompt, Claude Duet is designed to take a more proactive approach. It can check connected applications every few hours and alert users when it identifies something that may require their attention.

The agent can also prepare documents, spreadsheets, presentations and financial reports. Anthropic says it supports more than 6,000 connectors and plugins, allowing it to work with a broad range of digital services.

Another feature is its cloud-based computer environment, which includes a browser. This allows Claude Duet to continue working on assigned tasks even when users close their laptops or switch off their phones.

Can Claude Duet Make Decisions Independently?

Claude Duet can draft emails, organise information and prepare work without requiring users to supervise every step. However, certain sensitive actions still need explicit approval.

For instance, users must approve actions such as sending messages, making payments, signing documents and deleting information. These safeguards are intended to keep important decisions under the user’s control.

Anthropic has also added security checks to help protect sensitive information. However, the company acknowledges that the early version may sometimes misinterpret instructions or incorrectly assess which tasks are urgent.

As a result, users may still need to review the agent’s work and verify important details before taking action.

Claude Duet Availability and Subscription Prices

Claude Duet is currently available through a waitlist for selected users in the United States who subscribe to Claude Pro or Claude Max. It is not generally available in India, and Anthropic has not announced an Indian launch date.

Eligible subscribers can use Claude Duet without paying a separate fee for the agent. However, its background activity counts towards the usage limits of their existing Claude subscriptions.

The listed subscription prices are:

Subscription planMonthly price
Claude Pro$20
Claude Max 5x$100
Claude Max 20x$200

How to Get Started With Claude Duet

Eligible users can visit the official Claude Duet website and join the research preview waitlist. Access is subject to approval.

Once approved, users can access the service through its standalone iOS or Android application, or via claude.ai. Existing Claude memory, skills and connected applications can also carry over to the new experience.

Claude Duet enters a growing market for proactive AI assistants, as companies such as OpenAI and Meta also develop AI agents designed to handle everyday digital tasks more independently.
