Free LPG Cylinder: Ahead of Diwali, eligible families in Delhi are set to receive financial assistance equivalent to the cost of an LPG cylinder. The Delhi government has approved a scheme under which ration card-holding families will receive support twice a year, on Holi and Diwali.

The assistance will be transferred directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the head of the household through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The scheme covers eligible ration card-holding families in Delhi, including households that use piped natural gas (PNG) instead of LPG for cooking. The benefit is also available irrespective of whether a cylinder is purchased during the particular festival month.

Who Will Get the LPG Benefit?

The Delhi government’s scheme is applicable to families holding valid ration cards. The financial assistance is provided on two occasions every year—Holi and Diwali—with the amount credited through DBT.

When the scheme was approved, the government estimated the annual expenditure at around ₹242.77 crore. The actual cost can change depending on LPG prices, central government subsidies and the number of beneficiaries.

The scheme was formally launched in March 2026, with the government aiming to provide the benefit to around 15.5 lakh ration card-holding families in Delhi.

What Is the Current LPG Cylinder Price in Delhi?

The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is ₹942 as of October 2026. The domestic cylinder price has remained unchanged, while the price of the 19-kg commercial cylinder was increased by ₹62.50 on October 1, taking it to ₹2,810.

When the Delhi scheme was initially approved in February 2026, the domestic LPG cylinder price used for calculating the assistance was ₹853. The government has stated that expenditure under the scheme can be adjusted according to changes in LPG prices and applicable central subsidies.

Free LPG Cylinder Scheme in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh also provides festival-related LPG support to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The state has been providing free LPG refills around Holi and Diwali.

In 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government announced assistance for 1.86 crore eligible Ujjwala beneficiaries, with two free refills planned during the year. The state allocated ₹1,500 crore for LPG refill subsidies under the programme.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also stated in 2026 that eligible beneficiaries continue to receive free LPG cylinder refill support during Holi and Deepawali.
