Uttar Pradesh has introduced the Bharat Taxi initiative for taxi, auto-rickshaw and two-wheeler drivers, offering them an opportunity to work through a zero-commission model along with financial security benefits.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated Bharat Taxi in the state on Wednesday. Under the initiative, drivers of taxis, three-wheelers and two-wheelers can register on the platform without paying commission. The scheme also provides financial security coverage of up to ₹5 lakh.
The government says the initiative is aimed at improving working conditions for drivers while giving them greater financial protection. At the same time, it is expected to expand convenient transport options for passengers in cities.
Bharat Taxi Operations Begin in Four Cities
Bharat Taxi services have already started in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Prayagraj. Agreements have also been signed with several organisations to support operations, including Lucknow Airport authorities, Lucknow Metro and Lucknow Police.
These partnerships are intended to make it easier for passengers to access taxi and other local transport services at important locations across the cities.
Speaking about the initiative, CM Yogi said that such a system had not previously been considered for taxi, two-wheeler and three-wheeler drivers. He highlighted the zero-commission model as one of the key features of Bharat Taxi.
According to the chief minister, social security associated with the platform could provide drivers with greater confidence about their financial future and allow them to carry out their work with greater peace of mind.
CM Yogi Cites Mahakumbh 2025 Transport Example
The chief minister referred to the Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 while explaining the importance of flexible local transport.
During the event, a large number of young people used two-wheelers to help pilgrims travel to and from the Sangam. Such services also helped connect the Sangam area with railway stations and the airport.
CM Yogi said these transport services helped passengers reach their destinations conveniently while also reducing additional pressure on the wider traffic system.
Focus on Rural Transport and Employment
Alongside the Bharat Taxi initiative, CM Yogi has directed Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh to work on expanding bus services in rural areas.
The government believes that extending such transport facilities to villages could create additional employment opportunities for young people. The broader objective is to combine better mobility with greater employment and social security for those working in the transport sector.
Through Bharat Taxi, the state government is focusing on two areas at the same time: providing financial and social security to drivers and improving transportation facilities for people in urban areas.
The government has also indicated that the model could potentially be expanded to other sectors in the future.
