Mahindra is preparing to introduce the facelifted version of its popular Thar 3-door SUV. The company has released the first official teaser of the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift, giving a limited glimpse of the updated front-end design.
The new Thar is scheduled to launch on September 22. The facelift is expected to bring styling changes inspired by the larger Thar Roxx, along with additional features aimed at improving the SUV’s everyday usability while retaining its off-road character.
Updated Front Design Inspired by Thar Roxx
The first teaser does not show the complete front profile, but it reveals a redesigned grille covered in mud. The grille features vertical openings with mesh inserts, while Mahindra lettering can be seen positioned above it.
The company accompanied the teaser with the line, “Coming soon to a rearview mirror near you.”
Earlier sightings of test vehicles and spy images have indicated several possible changes to the front section. These include a revised grille, circular projector LED headlights and C-shaped LED daytime running lights that appear to take inspiration from the Thar Roxx.
The front bumper is also expected to receive styling updates, while the fog-lamp arrangement could be revised. Test vehicles have additionally been seen with redesigned alloy wheels.
Despite these changes, the SUV is expected to retain the familiar three-door body design. The tailgate-mounted spare wheel and split rear-opening arrangement are also likely to remain.
2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift Interior and Features
The cabin could receive several upgrades as part of the facelift. Test vehicles and reports have pointed towards features such as a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror.
Other expected additions include a 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats. However, Mahindra has not officially confirmed these features yet.
There has also been speculation about Level-2 ADAS, but this remains unconfirmed. If the facelift receives a more premium cabin similar to the Thar Roxx, the additional equipment could improve the SUV’s practicality and comfort for regular driving.
Petrol and Diesel Engine Options
The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to continue with the existing engine range. The lineup may include a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine.
The smaller diesel engine is expected to remain available with a manual transmission and rear-wheel-drive configuration. The larger petrol and diesel engines are expected to continue with four-wheel drive and both manual and automatic gearbox options.
Expected Price and Launch Date
The current Mahindra Thar 3-door is priced at approximately ₹10.32 lakh to ₹18 lakh ex-showroom. With the facelift expected to introduce revised styling and additional features, its price could be higher than the existing model.
Mahindra will officially reveal the updated SUV when the 2026 Thar facelift launches on September 22.
