8th Pay Commission: Central government employees and pensioners are closely following the progress of the Eighth Central Pay Commission as it continues consultations with employee organisations and other stakeholders across the country.
The Commission is currently scheduled to visit Bengaluru on October 7 and 8, 2026. Organisations interested in meeting the Commission during the Bengaluru visit have been asked to submit their requests by September 18, 2026. What Will Happen During the Bengaluru Visit?
During its two-day visit, the Commission will interact with representatives of organisations, institutions, associations and unions connected with central government employees and other relevant stakeholders.
These meetings are part of the Commission’s ongoing consultation process, through which it is collecting views, demands and representations before preparing its recommendations.
The Commission has already been conducting meetings and visits in different parts of the country. Its official calendar includes interactions with associations and unions, meetings with ministries and departments, and visits to different states and Union Territories.
Who Can Seek a Meeting With the Commission?
Organisations, associations, institutions and unions associated with the Central Government can seek an appointment during the Bengaluru visit.
Employee organisations and other eligible stakeholder groups that want to present their views to the Commission need to follow the application process and submit their request within the specified deadline of September 18, 2026.
The Eighth Central Pay Commission was constituted by the Government of India through a notification dated November 3, 2025. The Commission is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Professor Pulak Ghosh as the part-time Member and Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary.
When Could 8th Pay Commission Recommendations Be Implemented?
The Commission has been given 18 months from the date of its constitution to submit its recommendations. The Union Cabinet’s approved Terms of Reference state that the Commission is to make its recommendations within 18 months of its constitution.
Since the Commission was constituted on November 3, 2025, this places the expected recommendation timeline in 2027.
However, the actual implementation timeline will depend on the government’s consideration and subsequent decisions after the Commission submits its report. Past experience has led to expectations of a longer process between submission and full implementation, with 2029 or 2030 being discussed as possible timelines in the context of the article.
