Instagram New Feature: Instagram is introducing a new feature that gives users greater control over how their profile looks. Users can now add posts they have been tagged in directly to their main profile grid, without having to upload the content again themselves.

The original post will continue to remain on the account that published it, while the tagged user can choose to display it on their own profile. They can also remove the post from their grid later without deleting the original upload.

The update could be particularly useful for people who frequently share photos from trips, parties, events and group outings, where friends or other participants may upload the pictures and tag them.

How Instagram’s Tagged Post Feature Works

Instagram users can add a tagged post to their profile from multiple locations within the app.

The option can be accessed through:

  • The DM notification received when someone tags you
  • The original tagged post
  • The Tagged tab available on your Instagram profile

Once a user chooses to add the post, it will appear alongside their own content on the main profile grid.

Importantly, Instagram does not create a second copy of the post. The original upload remains on the profile of the person who posted it. Existing likes, comments and other engagement also stay connected to the original post.

Tagged Posts Can Be Removed From the Profile Grid

Users are not permanently locked into their decision. If they later decide that a tagged post does not fit their profile, they can remove it from their main grid.

Removing the post from the profile grid does not delete the original post. It also does not remove the content from the user’s Tagged tab.

This gives users more flexibility to curate their profile without affecting someone else’s original upload.

Instagram’s New Feature Could Help Creators and Collaborations

The feature is not only aimed at everyday Instagram users. It could also be useful for content creators, influencers and brands working together on campaigns.

Creators can now showcase content in which they have been tagged without having to download and repost it. They also do not necessarily need to use Instagram’s Invite Collaborators feature simply to have shared content appear on their profiles.

For brand campaigns involving several creators, the feature could make it easier for participants to highlight the same original content while keeping the post connected to its original publisher.

Instagram Continues to Expand Profile Customisation Tools

The latest tagged-post update is part of Instagram’s wider push to give users more control over their profile presentation.

The platform has also introduced a Reorder Your Grid feature, allowing users to rearrange content on their profile.

Other recent creative tools include First Draft, which can help create an initial version of a Reel, and Replace Audio, which allows users to change the music associated with an existing post.

With these updates, Instagram is giving users more ways to decide what appears on their profile and how their content is presented.
