Vivo appears to be working on a major redesign for its upcoming OriginOS 7, with leaked information suggesting a more modern interface, expanded personalisation and new visual effects. Based on Android 17, the next version of Vivo’s software could introduce multiple glass-style themes, a redesigned dock and greater control over the Control Centre.
The information comes from leaks and early test builds, so some of these features could change before the software is officially released.
OriginOS 7 Could Offer Three Glass-Style Themes
According to tipster Ice Universe, OriginOS 7 may allow users to select from three different glass-inspired interface styles: Liquid Glass, standard glass and frosted glass.
Each option is expected to produce a different combination of transparency, blur, lighting and material effects. This could give users more freedom to customise the overall appearance of the interface.
Interestingly, reports from recent test versions suggest Vivo may also offer a setting to turn off the glass effects completely. This would give users who prefer a cleaner or more traditional interface an alternative to the heavily translucent design.
Redesigned Dock Could Get a Translucent Finish
OriginOS 7 beta leaks have also hinted at changes to the home screen. The dock could receive a glossy, semi-transparent appearance, with app icons positioned within the redesigned area.
A translucent search bar or pill may also appear above the dock, while other parts of the interface could use background blur and smoother animations.
The software is reportedly being designed with spring-like animations when launching applications or opening the Control Centre, potentially making interactions feel more fluid.
Control Centre May Become Much More Customisable
One of the biggest changes could arrive in the Control Centre.
Early Android 17-based test information suggests OriginOS 7 may allow users to rearrange or remove individual Control Centre modules. These could include Wi-Fi and mobile network controls, the media player, sound settings, volume and brightness controls, as well as connected smartwatch widgets.
The lower shortcut section could also receive an editing mode. Users may be able to remove unwanted toggles and arrange the remaining shortcuts according to their preferences.
This would represent a significant improvement for users who want quicker access to the settings and features they use most often.
OriginOS 7 vs Samsung’s Reported Glass Design
The leaked OriginOS 7 design has also been compared with Samsung’s reportedly upcoming One UI 9.5 interface.
Samsung’s rumoured approach is said to rely heavily on elements such as edge lighting, shadows and background blur to create its glass-like appearance. Vivo, meanwhile, could take a more flexible approach by offering several different material styles for users to choose from.
Android 17 at the Core
OriginOS 7 is expected to be based on Android 17, bringing Vivo’s custom interface and features on top of Google’s next-generation Android platform.
Vivo has reportedly already begun recruiting users for its OriginOS 7 beta programme. Feedback from these early testers is expected to help the company improve stability, design and functionality before the software reaches a wider audience.
For now, the Liquid Glass interface, enhanced Control Centre and expanded customisation options remain based on leaks and test builds. Vivo’s final OriginOS 7 release could include additional changes or omit some of the features currently being tested.
