The 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC) has invited applications for Consultant positions on a contractual basis. The recruitment includes both full-time and part-time opportunities for experienced professionals across multiple disciplines.

According to the notification, these appointments are temporary and are meant to provide expert support for specific assignments and time-bound work related to the Commission.
The notice also clarifies that full-time consultants will not be allowed to undertake any other professional engagement during their contract period. 8th Pay Commission Consultant Recruitment 2026: Last Date and Vacancy Details
The application process is open until 31 August 2026. A total of 20 consultant positions are available under three different categories based on experience and age criteria.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet any one of the following educational qualifications:
- A Master’s degree or MBA in Finance, Human Resource (HR), Industrial Relations (IR), or a related field.
- An LL.B. degree with enrolment in a Bar Council or Bar Association, along with relevant experience in legal research or handling service-related matters before tribunals or courts as an advocate.
In addition, all applicants should have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, presentations, and slide preparation.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience dealing with salary structures, pay revisions, compensation policies, establishment matters, or employee emoluments.
Contract Duration
Selected candidates will be appointed for one year or until the tenure of the 8th Pay Commission ends, whichever is earlier.
The Commission may extend the contract beyond one year depending on the consultant’s performance, professionalism, and project requirements.
Candidates selected for the role will receive their offer letter through email and must confirm acceptance within seven days. They will be allowed up to 30 days to join after the offer is issued, although applicants who can join immediately may receive preference.
Before joining, selected candidates must submit:
- Integrity certificates from at least two referees.
- A self-declaration confirming that they have no criminal record or pending legal cases.

The Commission has announced different remuneration for full-time and part-time consultants.

Roles and Responsibilities
Consultants selected by the 8th Pay Commission will support the Commission in a variety of specialised assignments, including:
- Studying salary structures, pay scales, allowances and pension systems.
- Reviewing the existing compensation and emoluments framework.
- Assisting with research on human resources and employee compensation.
- Examining memoranda, representations and stakeholder submissions received by the Commission.
- Estimating the financial impact of proposed recommendations.
- Reviewing gratuity and bonus provisions.
- Coordinating with ministries and government departments to collect relevant information and data.
- Analysing reports, surveys and databases to identify salary and workforce trends.
- Conducting legal research related to the Commission’s mandate.
- Preparing reports, presentations and analytical documents.
- Performing any additional tasks assigned in connection with the Commission’s work.
About the 8th Pay Commission
The 8th Pay Commission is responsible for reviewing the pay structure, allowances, pensions and other service-related benefits of Central Government employees and pensioners. As part of its ongoing work, the Commission is holding consultations with employee unions, staff associations and other stakeholders before finalising its recommendations.
The panel is expected to submit its recommendations by mid-2027, which could impact the salaries and benefits of lakhs of Central Government employees, including personnel from the Railways, Defence and other government departments.
