The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a scheme to provide two free LPG cylinder refills to eligible women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the 2026-27 financial year. Beneficiaries will receive one refill for Holi and another for Diwali, offering financial relief to families facing cooking gas expenses during the festive season.

The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, which approved 39 proposals. The government has allocated ₹2,142.78 crore for the free LPG cylinder scheme.

However, having an Ujjwala Yojana connection alone may not be sufficient to receive the benefit. Beneficiaries should also check their Aadhaar-linked bank account details and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) status, along with any other requirements notified by the authorities.

Who Is Eligible for Free LPG Cylinders on Holi and Diwali?

The scheme is intended for eligible women beneficiaries registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to reduce household cooking fuel expenses, particularly for economically weaker families.

According to the information provided, approximately 1.86 crore women in the state are covered under the scheme. Eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive two LPG refills during the 2026-27 financial year, with one associated with each festival.

The government has highlighted the benefits of LPG cooking compared with traditional fuels such as firewood, which produce smoke and create difficulties for households. The scheme is intended to make cooking fuel more affordable for eligible families.

Budget Allocation for the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme

The Uttar Pradesh government has made a budgetary provision of ₹2,142.78 crore for implementing the scheme in the 2026-27 financial year.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Pandey also referred to the allocation while discussing the initiative. The financial support is intended to help eligible Ujjwala beneficiaries manage the cost of LPG refills during Holi and Diwali.

The actual process for receiving the benefit will depend on the government’s implementation guidelines and the arrangements applicable to registered beneficiaries.

Aadhaar Linking and DBT Requirements

Eligible beneficiaries should ensure that their bank details and LPG connection information are correct before seeking the benefit. Aadhaar linking and an active DBT facility may be relevant to the transfer of the eligible refill amount.

Beneficiaries should take the following steps:

  1. Book an LPG cylinder through their registered gas agency.
  2. Pay for the refill at the time of delivery if required under the applicable process.
  3. Check whether their bank account is correctly linked to Aadhaar.
  4. Confirm that the required Direct Benefit Transfer facility is active.
  5. Contact their LPG distributor or the concerned department to verify the refund process and the expected payment timeline.

Beneficiaries should confirm the official payment procedure before purchasing a refill specifically in anticipation of reimbursement. The applicable instructions will determine how the benefit is delivered.

Other Decisions Approved by the UP Cabinet

Apart from the free LPG cylinder scheme, the cabinet approved several other proposals. These included provisions for relaxations for Agniveers during recruitment in four government departments.

The meeting also included an announcement that Jewar Airport would be named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The free LPG refill initiative remains a key measure aimed at providing financial assistance to eligible Ujjwala households during the festive period.
