Tata Motors is preparing to unveil its upcoming sedan, the Tata Aeris, on September 25. The company has already released a teaser, offering the first official look at the model’s exterior design.
The Aeris is expected to be a significantly updated version of the existing Tigor, with Tata giving the sedan a new name along with several styling changes. The teaser reveals a redesigned front section featuring slim LED headlights positioned above a narrow DRL strip. LED fog lamps have also been added, a feature not available on the current Tigor.
At the rear, the sedan gets redesigned taillights, while the teaser also reveals conventional pull-type door handles and a new purple exterior colour.
Tata Aeris Design and Interior
Earlier design patent images have provided additional details about the Aeris. The rear bumper is expected to feature reflectors on both sides, while the familiar notchback-style roofline of the Tigor appears to have been retained.
The sedan is also expected to receive newly designed wheels, likely continuing with the 15-inch size used on the current model. Despite being based on the Tigor, Tata appears to have made substantial changes to the exterior sheet metal.
An electric version, expected to be called the Aeris EV, is also likely to share the same overall design, with some styling elements specific to an electric vehicle.
Tata Motors has not yet revealed the cabin, but the Aeris could borrow several elements from the updated Tiago. This may include a redesigned dashboard and a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system.
Other expected features include automatic climate control, electrically adjustable mirrors, six airbags as standard, rear AC vents and fast-charging ports.
Tata Aeris Expected Powertrain Options
The petrol-powered Aeris is expected to retain the Tigor’s existing engine options. This could include a 1.2-litre petrol engine along with a petrol-CNG powertrain.
Both options are expected to be available with a 5-speed manual transmission as well as a 5-speed AMT.
The Aeris EV could use battery technology carried over from the Tiago EV. The electric sedan is expected to be offered with 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery pack options.
Expected Tata Aeris Price
The upcoming changes could result in some variation in pricing compared with the current Tigor range.
At present, the Tata Tigor is priced between Rs 5.55 lakh and Rs 8.84 lakh, while the Tigor EV is available from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh, with all prices being ex-showroom.
The Aeris EV could also receive a Battery-as-a-Subscription option, similar to the electric Tiago. Such an arrangement could help reduce the initial purchase cost for buyers.
More details about the Tata Aeris, including its final specifications, features and pricing, are expected to be revealed when the sedan officially debuts on September 25.
