The Sikkim government has announced an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for government employees and pensioners. The revised rates will apply from January 1, providing relief to those receiving salaries and pensions under different pay structures.
The announcement was made through a circular issued by the Finance Department. The decision covers employees and pensioners drawing benefits under both old and revised pay scales.
DA and DR Rates Increased Under Different Pay Scales
For employees and pensioners receiving salaries or pensions based on pre-revised basic pay, the DA and DR have been increased by 5 percentage points. The rate has been revised from 257 per cent to 262 per cent.
Meanwhile, employees and pensioners covered under the revised basic pay structure will see their DA and DR increase from 58 per cent to 60 per cent. Both revised rates will be applicable from January 1.
The benefit will also extend to contractual employees and work-charged staff who receive revised salaries according to the pay scales applicable to regular government employees.
All India Services Officers Also Covered
The revised DA will also apply to All India Services (AIS) officers serving in Sikkim.
For officers covered under the old pay structure associated with the 6th Pay Commission, the DA has been increased from 257 per cent to 262 per cent. Under the 7th Pay Commission structure, the rate has been revised from 58 per cent to 60 per cent.
Government Clarifies Rounding-Off Rules
The Finance Department has also specified how the revised DA and DR amounts will be calculated. If the calculated amount includes a fraction of 50 paise or more, it will be rounded up to the next whole rupee. Fractions below 50 paise will be rounded off.
Around 50,000 Employees Expected to Benefit
The government estimates that around 50,000 employees will benefit from the decision. The increase in DA and DR is aimed at providing relief against the impact of inflation on salaries and pensions.
Since the revised rates are effective from January 1, payments to eligible employees and pensioners will be calculated from that date.
