State Bank of India (SBI) customers are set to see changes in ATM transaction rules from October 1, 2026, according to the announcement referred to in the source information. The changes concern free ATM transactions, cash withdrawals and certain payment services.

The update is particularly relevant for customers using SBI Salary Package Accounts and Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts (BSBDA). Customers should be aware of the applicable free transaction limits and charges before making frequent cash withdrawals.

New ATM Rules for SBI Salary Account Holders

Under the stated changes, SBI salary account holders will be allowed five free transactions every month when using their SBI debit cards at other banks’ ATMs and Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs).

The limit covers both financial and non-financial transactions and applies across locations. Once the applicable free transaction limit is exhausted, additional transactions may attract charges according to SBI’s revised rules.

SBI’s published ATM-charge information has previously specified separate free-transaction limits and charges for different account categories, so customers should check the latest applicable terms for their account before making transactions.

₹15 Charge on Additional Cash Withdrawals

For Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts opened through SBI branches, the stated update provides four free cash withdrawals each month. After these four withdrawals are used, customers will be charged ₹15 plus applicable GST for every additional cash withdrawal.

The four free withdrawals include applicable cash withdrawals through SBI ATMs, other bank ATMs and certain other permitted withdrawal channels. Digital transactions, meanwhile, are stated to remain free without a restriction on the number of transactions.

Changes in AePS Transactions

The update also includes changes concerning Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) transactions.

Previously, AePS transactions were treated as digital transactions and were not included in the monthly limit of four free cash withdrawals. Under the revised framework described in the source, customers may therefore need to consider how AePS transactions are classified when calculating their available free cash withdrawals.

SBI Also Revised Bulk FD Interest Rates

SBI had also revised interest rates for domestic bulk fixed deposits of ₹3 crore and above in August. The revised rates came into effect from August 15.

Customers with large fixed deposits should therefore check the applicable SBI interest-rate details and terms before making investment or renewal decisions.
