The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is one of the popular government-backed savings options for people looking to build a long-term corpus without taking direct market risk. Its tax treatment and 15-year initial maturity period make it suitable for investors with long-term financial goals.

If you invest ₹11,000 every month in PPF, your yearly contribution comes to ₹1.32 lakh. At a constant interest rate of 7.1% for the entire 15-year period, the investment could grow to approximately ₹35.38 lakh, based on a monthly-investment projection. However, the actual maturity amount may vary because PPF interest rates are reviewed every quarter.

₹11,000 Monthly PPF Investment: How Much Can You Build?

An investment of ₹11,000 every month adds up to ₹1,32,000 in a year. Over 15 years, the total amount deposited would be ₹19.80 lakh.

If the interest rate remains at 7.1% throughout the period and the monthly contributions are made in a manner consistent with the calculation assumption, the estimated maturity value is around ₹35.38 lakh. This means the estimated interest component would be approximately ₹15.58 lakh.

The calculation is only a projection because the PPF interest rate is not fixed for the entire 15-year tenure. The government reviews small-savings rates every quarter.

PPF Tax Benefits

PPF is known for its favourable tax treatment. Contributions qualify for a deduction under Section 80C, subject to the applicable tax rules and limits. The interest earned and the maturity proceeds are exempt from income tax under the prevailing rules.

The maximum amount that can be deposited into a PPF account in a financial year is ₹1.5 lakh, while the minimum annual contribution is ₹500. An investment of ₹11,000 per month, or ₹1.32 lakh annually, therefore remains within the yearly PPF contribution limit.

PPF Maturity and 5-Year Extension

A PPF account has an initial maturity period of 15 years. After completing this period, the account can be extended in blocks of five years, subject to the applicable rules.

This allows investors who do not immediately need the money to continue building their corpus beyond the original 15-year period.

How Is PPF Interest Calculated?

PPF interest is calculated each month on the lowest balance in the account between the 5th and the last day of that month. The interest is credited to the account annually on March 31.

Because of this calculation method, the timing of deposits can affect the interest earned during a particular year. The PPF interest rate is also reviewed and notified by the government every quarter.

Disclaimer

This article is for general informational purposes only. The ₹35.38 lakh figure is an illustrative projection assuming a constant 7.1% interest rate over 15 years; actual PPF returns may be different because interest rates can change every quarter and the timing of deposits affects interest calculation. Investors should check the latest government notification and applicable PPF rules before making investment decisions.
