If you are planning to invest your money in a bank fixed deposit (FD), there is an important update for you. Two major public sector banks, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Canara Bank, have revised their fixed deposit interest rates in November 2026.

Following the latest changes, senior citizens can earn interest of up to 7.25% annually on selected FD schemes. However, this rate is not available across all deposit tenures. The interest offered depends on the duration of the fixed deposit and the bank’s applicable terms.

Both banks are offering different interest rates on special-tenure deposits, including 444-day and 555-day FDs. Here is a detailed look at the revised rates.

Important Things to Know Before Investing in an FD

The revised interest rates announced by PNB and Canara Bank apply to domestic fixed deposits below ₹3 crore.

Senior citizens receive additional interest benefits compared with regular customers, subject to the bank’s eligibility requirements and applicable deposit tenure.

Before opening a fixed deposit, investors should consider more than just the advertised interest rate. The maturity period, premature withdrawal charges and applicable tax rules are also important.

Interest earned from fixed deposits may be taxable depending on the investor’s tax position. Therefore, it is important to compare the available FD schemes and select a tenure that matches your financial requirements.
