Delhi is preparing to introduce a new river tourism attraction, the Namo Yamuna River Safari, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy boating and cruise rides on the Yamuna. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the initiative, which aims to promote tourism and encourage people to connect more closely with the river.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra have reviewed the project. According to the information provided, the government is working to make the service available to the public before Chhath Puja.

Namo Yamuna River Safari: Route and Cruise Facilities

The planned safari route will connect Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. The cruise is expected to accommodate approximately 30 to 40 passengers at a time.

Reports describe the vessel as a new, air-conditioned cruise designed with local environmental conditions in mind. Alongside the boating service, work is also being carried out to clean and improve the riverbanks, creating a more pleasant environment for visitors and families.

Expected Ticket Prices, Timings and Ride Duration

The proposed cruise ticket price is approximately ₹500 per person, while general entry to the park or designated area is expected to cost ₹50. Separate charges may apply for water sports and other activities. These prices could change before or after the service opens.

The cruise is expected to operate between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM, with each ride lasting around 40 minutes to one hour.

Visitors are expected to be able to purchase tickets at counters in Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. An online booking option is also planned through the official Delhi Tourism website or the relevant government department.

Safety Measures and Riverbank Development

During an inspection, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta instructed officials to maintain cleanliness along the safari route and ensure that passenger safety receives priority.

The directions include providing life jackets, deploying trained swimmers and installing lights along the riverbanks. Officials have also been asked to complete the necessary repair work before the service opens to visitors.

These measures are intended to improve the overall experience while helping passengers enjoy the river journey in safer conditions.

When Will the Namo Yamuna River Safari Open?

Trial runs for the service reportedly began on October 26, 2026. The Delhi government is working towards opening the attraction to the general public before Chhath Puja, although the final public launch will depend on the completion of the required preparations.

The project is also expected to support tourism in the capital and create employment opportunities for local residents. If implemented as planned, the river safari will offer another leisure activity for people visiting or living in Delhi.
