Actor Dino Morea has been questioned by the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) as part of its investigation into the alleged Mithi River desilting scam. According to Mumbai Police, Morea was called in for questioning based on leads emerging during the ongoing probe.
Morea appeared at the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office on Friday to join the investigation. His name has come up in the case due to his alleged association with contractors and officials suspected of misappropriating public funds meant for flood prevention and drainage maintenance in Mumbai.
ED Raids Linked to Desilting Probe
In 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at 15 locations in Mumbai and Kochi, including Morea’s residence. The raids targeted individuals and organisations allegedly linked to contractors and officials under investigation.
The searches were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as the agency investigated the alleged movement of proceeds connected to financial irregularities.
The Mithi River desilting project was undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other civic agencies following the devastating Mumbai floods of 2005. The project was intended to improve flood management by removing debris and maintaining the riverbed.
Investigations have since raised questions over differences between the desilting work reported by contractors and the work allegedly carried out on the ground, leading to scrutiny of the use of funds allocated for the project.
Morea Also Named in Disha Salian Case
The latest development comes as Dino Morea is also facing scrutiny in connection with the death of Disha Salian. Following an order by the Bombay High Court on September 2, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a fresh FIR on September 14.
The FIR was based on a statement submitted by Salian’s father, Satish Salian, who alleged that his daughter had been gang-raped and murdered.
According to family representative Advocate Nilesh Ojha, the statement names several people, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, actors Dino Morea and Sooraj Pancholi, their bodyguards, Rohan Roy, Rhea Chakraborty, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, Sachin Vaze, former DCP Vishal Thakur and the former PI of the Malwani police station.
Disha Salian Death Case
Disha Salian was found dead in Mumbai on June 8, 2020. Her death was initially registered as an Accidental Death Report (ADR).
Salian died days before actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whose death later became the subject of a high-profile investigation and widespread public controversy.
