LPG cylinder prices remain an important concern for households as well as businesses that depend on commercial gas. While domestic LPG rates have remained unchanged, an unusual trend has emerged in some rural parts of Uttar Pradesh, where 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders are reportedly being sold below the prevailing local rate.
The development comes after supply pressures seen earlier in the year. Commercial LPG availability has now improved, and some distributors in rural markets are reportedly offering discounts to customers.
Commercial LPG Cylinder Available for ₹200 to ₹600 Less
In parts of Kushinagar district, some gas agencies are reportedly selling 19-kg commercial cylinders for considerably less than the official rate.
The official price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Kushinagar is around ₹2,946. However, some customers are reportedly able to purchase the same cylinder for between ₹2,400 and ₹2,700. This represents a difference of roughly ₹200 to ₹600, depending on the distributor and local selling price.
This discount is limited to certain rural areas and does not represent an official nationwide reduction in commercial LPG prices.
Why Are Commercial Cylinders Being Sold at Lower Prices?
The lower prices are reportedly linked to weak demand for commercial LPG in some rural markets rather than an official price reduction by oil marketing companies.
Commercial 19-kg cylinders are commonly used by restaurants, hotels, sweet shops, food stalls and catering businesses. In smaller towns and rural areas where demand from these establishments is relatively limited, some distributors are left with excess stock.
To clear this inventory and maintain the supply cycle, certain agencies are reportedly selling cylinders at discounted prices.
Domestic LPG Prices Remain Unchanged
There has been no fresh change in the price of the standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in September. In Delhi, the current domestic cylinder price is ₹942, while the 19-kg commercial cylinder is priced at ₹2,747.50.
Commercial LPG prices can differ from one city to another, and the discounted rates being reported in parts of rural Uttar Pradesh should not be confused with an official reduction applicable across the country.
