Government Pushes for More Piped Gas Connections
The government is also working to encourage greater use of domestic piped gas and reduce pressure on LPG subsidy expenditure.
An incentive programme has been approved for city gas distribution companies, with the objective of increasing domestic PNG connections from September 1, 2026.
States and Union Territories have been asked to extend administrative assistance at the district level to speed up the transition from LPG to piped natural gas.

West Asia Conflict Keeps Energy Markets Volatile
International oil prices remain sensitive to developments in the ongoing West Asia conflict.
On Friday, Saudi Arabia temporarily shut down a major pipeline after a drone attack. The development came as Iran-backed Houthi forces reportedly captured Perim Island, a strategically important location in the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern entrance to the Red Sea.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy described the pipeline shutdown as a precautionary action.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the drone attack originated from Iraq and stated that Riyadh would refrain from immediately retaliating to give the Iraqi government time to take appropriate action. Iraq condemned the attack and ordered an investigation.
Meanwhile, according to an ABC News report citing officials, the Trump administration has provided Saudi Arabia with significant intelligence and targeting assistance but does not currently plan to conduct direct military strikes against the Iran-backed Houthis.
The developments followed two telephone conversations between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump on Thursday, according to an official.
