Jio Platforms IPO GMP: What Does the Grey Market Indicate?

According to Investorgain, the grey market premium (GMP) for the Jio Platforms IPO stood at ₹244 late on October 22.

Based on the upper price band of ₹1,119, this translates into an estimated listing price of ₹1,363, implying a potential gain of around 21.81% over the issue price.

However, GMP is an unofficial market indicator and can fluctuate considerably. It does not guarantee the actual listing price or any profit after the shares begin trading.

Jio IPO Retail Quota and Reliance Connection

The retail investor portion of the Jio Platforms IPO has been allocated 8,50,37,326 shares, representing 35% of the net public offer.

Jio Platforms’ association with Reliance Industries is another factor investors may consider. Reliance Industries shares have reportedly risen approximately 330 times since 1990, helping establish the group as a prominent name among Indian equity investors.

When Mukesh Ambani announced the decision to list Jio Platforms in June, he described it as “A deeply emotional moment for me, for the entire Reliance Family, and millions of its shareholders.”

Jio Platforms’ next phase of growth is expected to focus on 5G connectivity, home broadband, cloud services and artificial intelligence.

Key Risks Investors Should Consider

Despite the strong subscription figures, analysts have highlighted several risks associated with the Jio Platforms IPO.

Technology and competition: Telecommunications and digital services require continuous investment as technology evolves. Competition from satellite broadband providers could also affect JioFiber, JioAirFiber and enterprise connectivity services.

Regulatory changes: The company’s operations are subject to regulations issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Changes to these requirements could increase operating costs.

Outstanding legal proceedings: According to the Red Herring Prospectus (RHP), tax proceedings involving ₹7.5 crore have been disclosed against the company, with proceedings involving ₹10,836.3 crore against subsidiaries and ₹44,187 crore against the promoter. Unfavourable outcomes could create financial liabilities.

Dependence on Reliance Jio Infocomm: Reliance Jio Infocomm contributed 87.74% of Jio Platforms’ consolidated revenue in FY26. Any significant operational disruption affecting this subsidiary could have an adverse effect on the company’s financial performance.
