Passengers travelling with IndiGo may now have to spend more on several additional services. The airline has increased charges for infant travel, unaccompanied minors, excess baggage, priority check-in and boarding, as well as travel certificates.
For families and passengers using these services, the revised charges could increase the overall cost of their journey.
Infant Travel Fee Increased by ₹1,000
Families travelling with children under the age of two will now have to pay a higher infant fee. IndiGo has increased the charge from ₹2,000 to ₹3,000, resulting in an additional cost of ₹1,000 per infant.
Infants travelling under this arrangement are not provided with a separate seat, but they must be included in the flight booking.
The change is estimated to affect around 1 million families travelling with infants and could generate approximately ₹90 crore in additional revenue for the airline.
Extra Baggage and Unaccompanied Minor Charges Rise
Passengers carrying luggage beyond their permitted baggage allowance will also face a higher charge. IndiGo has increased its excess baggage fee from ₹700 to ₹800 per kilogram.
For example, a passenger carrying 5 kg of additional baggage would now pay ₹4,000, compared with ₹3,500 under the earlier rate.
The fee for minors travelling without an accompanying adult has also increased. The charge has moved from ₹5,000 to ₹5,999.
Priority Check-in and Travel Certificate Fees Revised
IndiGo has also revised the charges for some passenger convenience services. The fee for priority check-in and boarding has increased from ₹450 to ₹650, adding ₹200 to the previous cost.
Passengers requiring a travel certificate will also have to pay more. The charge has been raised from ₹200 to ₹300.
IndiGo Continues to Expand Its Operations
IndiGo remains a major player in India’s domestic aviation market, with more than 66% of the country’s domestic market share. The airline is also expanding its international operations.
As part of its future expansion plans, IndiGo is scheduled to introduce wide-body Airbus A350-900 aircraft from 2028. The airline has more than 900 aircraft on order and currently operates a fleet of over 430 aircraft, with around 2,200 flights.
