Indian Railways is set to intensify ticket inspections ahead of the festive season. Central Railway will conduct a special ticket-checking campaign from October 1 to October 31, during which officials will verify passengers’ tickets along with identity documents and papers required to establish eligibility for certain concessions and reservation categories.

According to Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Dr Swapnil Nila, passengers travelling under concession schemes or specific reservation quotas must carry the prescribed original documents to prove their eligibility.

At Least One Passenger Must Carry Original ID

When a single ticket is booked for multiple passengers, at least one passenger named on the ticket must carry original identity proof during the journey.

Railway officials have stated that if the required identity documents are not available, the passengers travelling on that ticket may be treated as travelling without a valid ticket, as per the applicable rules.

Passengers should therefore ensure that the required original documents are available before starting their journey, particularly when travelling under a concession or special reservation category.

Concession, Quota and Pass Tickets Under Scrutiny

The special checking campaign will pay particular attention to tickets booked under concession schemes and specific reservation quotas. Passengers using such facilities will need to carry original documents supporting their eligibility.

Passengers travelling with e-passes or PTOs (Privilege Ticket Orders) will also be required to carry the relevant original documents during travel.

Railway staff will additionally check the authenticity of unreserved tickets as part of the campaign. Where required, ticket-checking personnel can use the TTE app to verify ticket-related details.

Railway Ticket Checking Drive Aims to Prevent Irregularities

According to Central Railway, the campaign is aimed at reducing irregularities in ticketing and reservation systems. The checking drive will focus on preventing revenue leakage, misuse of reservation facilities and fraudulent use of concessions and passes, while also verifying whether tickets are genuine and valid.

Passengers can use designated photo identity documents for identification during their journey. These include Aadhaar card, voter ID card, passport, driving licence, photo identity card, school or college ID card and a bank passbook carrying a photograph, among other permitted documents.
