The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of intense rainfall across parts of northern India on Saturday, September 26, with Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand among the areas facing extremely heavy rain. The latest IMD warning also covers thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds in several regions.
The weather system is expected to keep rainfall activity elevated across parts of north and central India over the next few days. Delhi is also forecast to receive light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph on September 26. UP and Uttarakhand Under Heavy Rain Warning
The IMD’s September 26 warning shows extremely heavy rainfall for both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. East Uttar Pradesh is also expected to see heavy rain on September 27, while western Uttar Pradesh has a very heavy rain warning for the same day.
Uttarakhand is facing an extended spell of intense weather. The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rain for September 26 and 27, followed by heavy rain on September 28, along with thunderstorms and lightning.

Rainfall activity is also expected to remain strong over parts of Madhya Pradesh. The IMD has issued a very heavy rain warning for western Madhya Pradesh on September 26, while eastern Madhya Pradesh is under a very heavy rain warning after an extremely heavy rain warning for the previous day.
Jharkhand is also expected to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim have a heavy rain warning for September 26.
Several other parts of central and eastern India may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds as the weather system remains active.
Delhi Weather Forecast for September 26
According to the IMD’s latest New Delhi-Safdarjung forecast, the capital is expected to remain generally cloudy on September 26, with light to moderate rainfall during the day. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are also forecast during the forenoon and afternoon.
The forecast indicates a maximum temperature of around 33°C and a minimum of about 23°C for the day.
Southwest Monsoon Withdrawal Continues
The latest weather conditions come as the Southwest Monsoon continues its withdrawal from parts of India. The IMD’s withdrawal criteria are based on factors including a sustained reduction in rainfall, establishment of an anticyclone in the lower atmosphere and a decline in atmospheric moisture.
Despite the ongoing withdrawal process, the latest IMD warnings show that several parts of northern and central India can still experience intense rainfall and thunderstorms over the coming days.
