Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has welcomed a US court’s decision to dismiss the criminal case against him, saying he maintains strong confidence in the judicial system and the principles of fairness and justice.
In his first public reaction following the dismissal, Adani said the legal proceedings had been challenging but his belief in “truth, fairness and the rule of law” had remained firm.
“I welcome the US court’s decision with humility and deep respect for the judicial process,” Adani said in a post on X. He also expressed gratitude to people who continued to place their trust in him, the legal system and India’s ability to deliver justice.
Adani said the group would remain focused on its broader commitments, including contributing to India’s development and creating long-term value.
“We will continue doing what matters: building for our nation, creating value that outlasts us and serving a purpose larger than ourselves,” he said.
US Court Dismisses Criminal Case Against Adani
A US federal judge on Monday formally dismissed the criminal case against Gautam Adani after the administration of US President Donald Trump sought to withdraw the fraud and bribery allegations filed against him in 2024.
Brooklyn federal judge Nicholas Garaufis approved prosecutors’ request to end the case. The allegations had accused Adani of being involved in an alleged $265 million scheme to bribe Indian officials in connection with lucrative solar power supply contracts.
The case had attracted significant international attention since the allegations were first brought forward.
Judge Examines Alleged $10 Billion US Investment Pledge
Adani’s legal team was led by attorney Robert Giuffra, who is also known as US President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer.
Reports said Giuffra had indicated to US Justice Department officials that Adani would consider investing around $10 billion in the United States if the criminal charges were dropped.
Judge Garaufis questioned whether the proposed investment had influenced the government’s decision to seek dismissal of the case.
After reviewing the matter, however, the judge concluded that the investment proposal did not determine the prosecutors’ decision to end the proceedings.
Judge Criticises Handling Of The Case
Although the case was dismissed, Judge Garaufis raised concerns about the manner in which the Justice Department reached its decision.
The judge described the circumstances surrounding the dismissal as “highly unusual”, particularly because a senior Justice Department official appeared to have made the decision without significant involvement from investigators and prosecutors who had previously worked on the case.
Garaufis specifically pointed to the absence of apparent input from FBI and SEC investigators involved in examining the allegations, as well as prosecutors who had initially brought the case.
He said the decision appeared to have been reached largely through discussions between the senior official and Adani’s defence counsel.
Adani Says Focus Will Remain On India’s Growth
Following the court’s decision, Adani signalled that he intends to move forward rather than dwell on the legal proceedings.
His statement emphasised his continued commitment to India, long-term investment and nation-building.
The dismissal brings an end to the US criminal proceedings against Adani, while his latest comments underline his stated confidence in the judicial process and his intention to focus on the Adani Group’s future business and development plans.
