Rising cooking gas prices have made it difficult for many low-income families to afford regular LPG cylinder refills. To provide financial relief, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a scheme under which eligible beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) can receive two free LPG refills every year.
Under the scheme, approximately 1.86 crore households in Uttar Pradesh are expected to benefit. The two annual refills are scheduled around Diwali and Holi. According to the provided scheme details, the first refill will cover the October to December 2026 period, while the second will be available from January to March 2027.
Eligible consumers will need to book their cylinders through their regular gas distributor and pay the applicable price at the time of delivery. The subsidy amount will then be transferred directly to their Aadhaar-linked bank account, subject to the scheme’s requirements.
Free Gas Cylinder Scheme: When Will Beneficiaries Receive the Benefit?
The programme is intended to help Ujjwala beneficiaries manage cooking fuel expenses during the festive season. Although many eligible families already have LPG connections, the cost of refills can make regular use difficult.
Under the announced schedule, the first free refill is linked to Diwali and will be available during October–December 2026. The second refill is scheduled for the Holi period, from January to March 2027.
The scheme covers two refills per year for eligible households. Beneficiaries should check the latest instructions from the Uttar Pradesh government or their LPG provider for confirmation of the applicable dates and subsidy process.
Who Is Eligible for the Free LPG Cylinder?
The benefit is intended specifically for households registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. People with regular domestic LPG connections who are not enrolled in PMUY are not eligible under the scheme described here.
Beneficiaries must also ensure that their records and payment details meet the required conditions. These include completing Aadhaar verification and the required electronic know-your-customer (eKYC) process for the LPG connection.
The beneficiary’s bank account must be linked to Aadhaar, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) must be enabled so that the subsidy can be credited directly to the account. Incomplete verification or incorrect bank details may affect the receipt of the benefit.
How to Claim the Free Gas Cylinder Benefit
Eligible Ujjwala beneficiaries should book an LPG refill through their usual distributor, whether Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas, following the normal booking procedure.
At the time of delivery, the consumer must pay the applicable cylinder price. The subsidy is then expected to be transferred to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account, provided all eligibility and verification requirements have been met.
Consumers who have not completed eKYC should contact their nearest LPG distributor to find out how to finish the process. Depending on the gas provider’s available facilities, biometric authentication may also be offered through its official mobile application.
Before booking, beneficiaries should confirm the current scheme instructions, refill eligibility and subsidy status with their gas agency or through official government channels.
