The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is expanding digital access to important documents for its members. PF account holders can now access their Universal Account Number (UAN) card, Pension Payment Order (PPO) and Scheme Certificate through DigiLocker, making it easier to store and retrieve essential records online.
According to the information shared by EPFO, members can securely access these documents anytime and from anywhere through the digital platform. This facility is intended to simplify document management and reduce the need to carry physical copies of important pension and provident fund records.
EPFO Announces Digital Document Facility on X
EPFO shared the update through a post on its official account on X, highlighting the availability of key documents through DigiLocker.
The initiative supports the digital delivery of EPFO services by allowing members and pensioners to access important records through an online platform. Having these documents available digitally can make them more convenient to retrieve when required for official or financial purposes.
What Is DigiLocker and How Does It Work?
DigiLocker is a digital document storage and access platform launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 under the Digital India initiative. It enables users to access and manage digital versions of documents issued by participating government departments and other authorised organisations.
An Aadhaar-based identity verification process is used when setting up an account. Depending on availability and issuer integration, users can access documents such as PAN cards, voter ID cards, Aadhaar-related records and various government certificates.
With the EPFO facility, eligible members can also access their UAN cards, PPOs and Scheme Certificates through the platform.
What Are UAN Cards, PPOs and EPS Scheme Certificates?
These three documents serve different purposes for provident fund members and pensioners.
UAN card: The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique 12-digit number assigned to an EPFO member. It generally remains the same when an employee changes jobs and helps link multiple PF member identification numbers associated with the employee. Members can use their UAN to access provident fund services, check account information and submit eligible withdrawal claims.
Pension Payment Order (PPO): A PPO is an official document containing a pensioner’s identifying and payment-related details under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS). Its unique 12-digit number is used for pension-related activities, including pension disbursement and other verification requirements.
EPS Scheme Certificate: This certificate records important information about an EPFO member’s pensionable service, including the period of employment. It can also contain relevant family details and information concerning eligibility for pension benefits, subject to the applicable rules.
How DigiLocker Can Help EPFO Members
Making these documents available digitally provides members with a convenient way to access important records without relying entirely on physical copies. This can be particularly useful when documents are needed for pension-related procedures, employment records or other official requirements.
Members should ensure that their DigiLocker account is properly set up and follow the platform’s instructions to access documents issued by EPFO. They should also verify that the information displayed in their digital records is correct.

The availability of EPFO documents on DigiLocker and the procedures for accessing them may depend on the relevant service and issuer integration. Members should consult the official EPFO website and DigiLocker platform for the latest instructions and information before relying on digital documents for any official process.
