India’s electric two-wheeler market is witnessing strong growth in 2026, with rising fuel and maintenance costs encouraging more buyers to consider electric scooters. According to Vahan data, 15.61 lakh electric two-wheelers were registered between January and September 2026, compared with 9.61 lakh units during the same period in 2025.

This represents growth of around 62 percent, with nearly 6 lakh more electric two-wheelers registered year-on-year. The segment has also surpassed its full-year 2025 registration figure of 13.42 lakh units, achieving the milestone within just nine months of 2026.

TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Vida Lead the Market

Four major manufacturers continue to dominate India’s electric two-wheeler segment. TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida together account for around 76 percent of the market.

TVS Motor emerged as the leading manufacturer in September. Buyers registered 53,990 TVS electric two-wheelers during the month. Bajaj Auto followed with 48,383 registrations, while Ather Energy recorded 30,477 units.

Overall, electric two-wheeler registrations reached around 1.97 lakh units in September 2026, up 7.7 percent compared with August.

Electric Two-Wheelers Gain Market Share

Electric scooters are also accounting for a growing portion of India’s overall two-wheeler market. Vahan data shows that electric vehicles represented 11.5 percent of total two-wheeler registrations in September 2026.

The share stood at 8.2 percent during September 2025. The year-on-year increase highlights the expanding presence of electric vehicles in a market that has traditionally been dominated by petrol-powered scooters and motorcycles.

Competition Intensifies Among EV Manufacturers

The strong registration numbers also reflect increasing competition among manufacturers. Popular models such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ather Rizta and Vida electric scooter range continue to contribute significantly to their respective companies’ sales.

At the same time, smaller electric vehicle manufacturers are gradually increasing their presence. River Mobility, for example, increased its market share from 1.27 percent in 2025 to 2.46 percent between January and September 2026.

With three months still remaining in the year, the electric two-wheeler segment has already moved beyond its 2025 full-year record. The growing registrations of established brands alongside the expansion of newer players indicate that competition in India’s electric two-wheeler market is continuing to intensify.
