India enjoyed another memorable day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with Murali Sreeshankar securing a second straight long jump silver medal and Dilip Mahadu Gavit scripting history by winning gold in para athletics. The country’s boxers also delivered an outstanding performance, guaranteeing 10 medals with a dominant run into the semifinals.

With another impressive medal haul, India strengthened its position in the overall standings and continued its successful campaign at the Games.

Murali Sreeshankar Bags Second Consecutive CWG Silver

Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar once again showcased his consistency on the international stage by winning the silver medal with a best leap of 8.09m.

The achievement makes him the first Indian long jumper to win consecutive Commonwealth Games medals, having also claimed silver at the 2022 Birmingham Games.

Sreeshankar opened the competition with a jump of 8.03m, placing him third behind Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie and Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who both managed 8.08m.

His second-best effort of 8.09m briefly moved him into the gold-medal position before Gayle responded with a winning jump of 8.15m. Mackenzie settled for bronze with 8.08m, while fellow Indian Lokesh Sathyanathan finished fifth after recording 7.97m.

India Creates History In Para Athletics

India celebrated a landmark achievement in para athletics by registering its first-ever one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47 event, meant for athletes with upper-limb impairments.

Dilip Mahadu Gavit stormed to the gold medal after clocking 10.71 seconds, while Mohammed Basil claimed silver with a timing of 10.83 seconds.

Dilip’s victory marked India’s third gold medal of the Games, following earlier triumphs by Mirabai Chanu in weightlifting and Sharmila Dhankar in the women’s shot put F57 event.

After Day 7, India’s medal tally stands at:

  • 3 Gold
  • 9 Silver
  • 3 Bronze

The nation currently occupies eighth place in the overall medals table.

Indian Boxers Assure 10 Medals

India’s boxing contingent continued its dominant campaign by sending several more athletes into the semifinals, ensuring at least 10 medals for the country.

Joining the semifinal lineup were:

  • Sakshi Chaudhary
  • Arundhati Choudhary
  • Sachin Siwach
  • Ankush Panghal
  • Narender Berwal
  • Jaismine Lamboria

They joined previously qualified semifinalists Lovlina Borgohain, Priya Ghanghas, Preeti Pawar, and Jadumani Singh.

In one of the day’s most exciting contests, Jaismine Lamboria defeated England’s Elise Glynn 4-1 in the women’s 57kg quarterfinal to book her place in the last four.

With 10 semifinalists, India’s boxing team has already surpassed its medal tally from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where it won seven medals.

Indian Hurdlers Reach The Final

India also enjoyed success on the athletics track as Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh K Tamilarasan advanced to the men’s 400m hurdles final.

Santhosh finished third in Heat 2 with a timing of 49.51 seconds, while Yashas clocked 49.65 seconds to finish third in Heat 1.

Both athletes progressed as the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers and will now compete for medals in the final.

Mixed Results In Field Events

Shot putter Manpreet Kaur narrowly missed a podium finish after placing fourth in the women’s final with a best throw of 17.49m.

Meanwhile, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill successfully qualified for the men’s shot put final.

Toor crossed the automatic qualification mark with a throw of 20.14m, while Gill advanced among the top performers after recording 19.95m.

The medal event will take place on Thursday.

Animesh Kujur Advances In 200m Sprint

National record holder Animesh Kujur produced a season-best performance to qualify for the men’s 200m semifinals.

The 23-year-old clocked 20.46 seconds to win Heat 4 and finished seventh overall, comfortably booking his place among the top 16 semifinalists.

Disappointment In Weightlifting And Swimming

Not every event brought success for India.

Weightlifter Sanjana was unable to complete her attempts in the women’s 77kg category, resulting in a Did Not Finish (DNF).

In swimming, experienced campaigner Sajan Prakash and debutant Aneesh S. Gowda failed to qualify for the men’s 200m freestyle final.

Prakash finished 20th overall with a time of 1:51.99, while Aneesh ended 18th after clocking 1:51.64, bringing India’s campaign in the event to an early close.

India Maintains Strong Momentum At CWG 2026

Day 7 once again highlighted India’s growing strength across multiple disciplines. From Murali Sreeshankar’s silver-winning leap and Dilip Mahadu Gavit’s historic gold to another dominant outing by the boxing team, Indian athletes continued to deliver impressive performances in Glasgow.

With several medal events still to come, India remains firmly in contention to add significantly to its tally in the remaining days of the Commonwealth Games 2026.
