New Delhi: Chocolate is often associated with desserts and indulgence, but cocoa is also used in a variety of skincare treatments. Chocolate-based face masks are popular for their potential to moisturise and exfoliate the skin while providing antioxidant benefits.

Cocoa contains antioxidants such as catechins, polyphenols and flavanols. These compounds are associated with several skincare benefits, including helping protect the skin from environmental damage, supporting hydration and improving the appearance of dull skin.

Instead of spending extra money on spa treatments, chocolate-based face packs can also be prepared at home using unsweetened cocoa powder and other commonly available ingredients. Here are four recipes to try.

1. Chocolate and Turmeric Face Mask

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk

How to make it

Combine the cocoa powder and turmeric in a bowl. Gradually add the milk while mixing until you get a smooth paste.

Apply the mixture evenly over your face and leave it on for around 15–20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water while gently massaging the skin in circular movements. Pat your face dry and apply moisturiser.

This mask can be used once a week.

2. Chocolate and Green Tea Face Mask

Ingredients

  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 green tea bags
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey

How to make it

Prepare the green tea by boiling the tea bags in water and allow the liquid to cool. Add the cocoa powder, olive oil, yoghurt and honey to the cooled green tea and mix thoroughly.

Apply the prepared face pack to your skin and allow it to dry before washing it off.

The mask can be used once or twice a week.

3. Cocoa Beauty Treatment Mask

Ingredients

  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons yoghurt
  • 2 vitamin E capsules

How to make it

Pierce the vitamin E capsules and squeeze out the contents. Combine them with cocoa powder, honey and yoghurt, then mix everything well.

Apply the mixture to your face and neck. Allow it to dry before washing it off.

This face mask can be used twice a week.

4. Chocolate and Banana Face Pack

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ cup mashed banana
  • 1 tablespoon yoghurt

How to make it

Put all the ingredients into a bowl and mix them until they form a thick paste. Apply the mixture evenly to your face and neck and allow it to dry.

Wash it off with lukewarm water.

This pack can be used twice a week.
