The Agra administration is preparing stricter measures against repeated traffic rule violations to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Under the proposed enforcement action discussed at a recent meeting, drivers whose vehicles receive more than five traffic challans could face cancellation of their driving licences.
The decision was discussed during a meeting of the Divisional Road Safety Committee at the Divisional Commissioner’s office. Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap Singh chaired the meeting, where officials reviewed road safety concerns, motorway accidents and traffic congestion.
Special attention was given to the risks caused by winter fog, when reduced visibility can increase the chances of road accidents.
Strict Action Against Repeated Traffic Violations
The administration has indicated that drivers who repeatedly ignore traffic regulations will face strict action. As discussed during the meeting, accumulating more than five traffic challans could lead to the cancellation of the driver’s licence.
Officials also reviewed measures to prevent accidents on motorways, particularly during the winter months when dense fog can make driving conditions dangerous.
Action Planned Against Rental Auto and E-Rickshaw Operators
The rising number of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws has become a major concern for traffic management in Agra. Their increasing presence on city roads is contributing to congestion.
To address the problem, the administration has directed officials to identify people operating auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws on a rental basis. Shailesh Kumar Pandey issued instructions in this regard.
According to the regulations discussed, only e-rickshaws with valid licences will be allowed to operate on the roads. Owners running unauthorised e-rickshaws may also face legal action.
Winter Road Safety Measures and Traffic Guidelines
During the meeting, the Transport and Police departments presented a report on traffic violations recorded over the past few months.
The report showed a reduction in cases involving riding without helmets, using mobile phones while driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. However, violations related to not wearing seatbelts and driving on the wrong side of the road have increased.
Considering the possibility of heavy fog during winter, officials have been instructed to take several precautionary steps. These include reducing speed limits, trimming trees that may affect visibility, installing road signs and increasing the availability of ambulances and cranes.
The administration is focusing on stricter enforcement and better emergency arrangements to improve road safety and manage traffic during the winter season.
