The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a new WhatsApp facility to make it easier for millions of subscribers to access their provident fund details. Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the digital service on Sunday during the organisation’s 74th Foundation Day celebrations.
Through this facility, EPF members can check their account balance, view their latest five transactions and access passbook details directly on WhatsApp. Subscribers will no longer need to depend only on the EPFO website to check these details.
The initiative is aimed at making routine PF services more accessible and reducing the need for members to visit EPFO offices.
EPFO WhatsApp Number: Where to Send ‘Hi’?
According to the Labour Ministry, EPFO members can use the organisation’s verified WhatsApp service to access their PF account information.
To get started, send a message to +91 8796441800 using the mobile number registered with your Universal Account Number (UAN).
Follow these steps to use the service:
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Send ‘Hi’ or ‘Hello’ to +91 8796441800 from your UAN-registered mobile number.
- Follow the instructions provided by the automated chatbot.
- Complete the mobile verification process using your UAN.
- After successful verification, select the relevant menu option to check your EPF balance, view your last five transactions or access your passbook.
This service provides members with a convenient way to access important PF information through WhatsApp.
EPFO Introduces Automatic Settlement for Inactive PF Accounts
Alongside the WhatsApp facility, the EPFO has also introduced an automatic transfer process for eligible balances held in inoperative accounts.
Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced the initiative during the organisation’s 74th Foundation Day event. Under this arrangement, subscribers with Aadhaar-verified EPF accounts that have become inactive and contain a balance of up to ₹1,000 will not have to submit a separate claim.
The EPFO will begin the settlement process automatically after completing the required identity and bank account verification procedures. This is intended to help eligible account holders receive their pending PF amounts without going through a separate claim process.
Around 1 Lakh Inactive Accounts Expected to Benefit
The automatic settlement initiative is expected to cover approximately 1 lakh inactive EPF accounts, involving a total amount of around ₹5 crore.
With these digital initiatives, the EPFO is expanding access to PF-related services while simplifying the process of receiving eligible balances from inactive accounts.
