The Delhi government’s Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has introduced an online liquor booking facility that allows eligible customers to reserve and pay for liquor before collecting it from designated retail outlets. Officials say the initiative is intended to improve transparency, reduce waiting times and prevent brand-pushing at liquor stores.
According to a senior DSIIDC official, approval for developing the ‘Delhi Liquor Booking’ app was granted in December 2024, and the work order was issued on January 2, 2025. The app was rolled out in November 2025 after the necessary trials.
How Does the Delhi Liquor Booking App Work?
Customers can use the app to check available liquor brands, select a DSIIDC retail outlet, choose bottle sizes and specify the quantity they wish to purchase. After completing the online booking and payment, they must collect their order from the selected store.
The facility does not include home delivery. Customers are required to pick up their booked liquor within 48 hours.
Initially, the app was compatible only with Android devices. To make the service accessible to iPhone users as well, DSIIDC launched a QR-code-enabled microsite on September 6, allowing customers using iOS devices to access the booking facility.
Liquor Booking Rules, Age Limit and Quantity Restrictions
Customers must be at least 25 years old to use the online booking service. Excise regulations also limit the quantity that can be booked by an individual.
Under the stated limits, a customer can book up to 9 litres of whiskey and 18 litres of beer.
Officials have clarified that liquor already sold or collected cannot be returned. However, customers can cancel an order before picking up the bottles from the retail outlet.
Why Has Delhi Introduced Online Liquor Booking?
According to DSIIDC officials, the initiative was introduced to strengthen digital governance and make liquor sales more transparent. Allowing customers to view available brands and complete payments online is intended to reduce congestion and waiting times at retail stores.
The system is also expected to ease pressure on payment counters, improve pricing and billing transparency, and give customers more time to choose from the available selection.
Officials have indicated that the response to the service has been limited so far. Any decision to expand the facility further will depend on customer feedback and the level of public interest.
