Residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi may get additional time to apply for legal property ownership under the PM-UDAY scheme. The Delhi government and the authorities concerned are considering an extension of the application deadline as the number of applications received so far has reportedly remained below expectations.
According to a notice issued by the Revenue Department, the original deadline for submitting applications was October 31. Authorities had earlier stated that property deeds and permission letters would not be processed for applications received after this date. However, an extension is now being considered, and an official announcement confirming any revised deadline is awaited.
Why Is the PM-UDAY Deadline Being Considered for Extension?
Despite changes to the scheme’s rules and reductions in fees, applications from residents have not reached the expected level in recent months. This has prompted officials to consider giving applicants more time to complete the process.
If approved, an extension could provide additional opportunities for eligible property owners to apply for legal recognition of their properties. Residents should wait for an official notification before relying on a new deadline.
What Is the PM-UDAY Scheme?
The Pradhan Mantri Unauthorized Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana, known as PM-UDAY, was introduced to provide ownership rights to residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi.
The scheme aims to benefit approximately 4 million residents across 1,511 unauthorised colonies. Following changes to the programme’s rules, the Central Government assigned the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) responsibility for implementing the scheme.
The initiative is intended to help eligible residents obtain legal recognition of their property rights through the prescribed process.
Application Fees Reduced to Make Registration Easier
The government has introduced several changes to reduce the financial burden on residents seeking property ownership rights.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has removed several fees previously charged for regularisation. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has significantly reduced its charges, allowing eligible property owners to pay just 25% of the standard fee.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has also clarified that properties in these colonies are being regularised without approved layout plans.
These measures are intended to make the process more accessible and encourage more residents to apply. If the deadline is extended, eligible applicants could receive additional time to complete the necessary formalities and seek legal recognition of their properties.
