New Delhi: Reliance Jio has presented its future 6G technology roadmap at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, showcasing its Giga MIMO Radio and a pre-6G technology stack. The company believes India could be among the first countries to introduce commercial 6G services after international standards are finalised around 2030.

Jio says its next-generation network technology is being developed to deliver up to five times the capacity of current 5G networks while reducing latency by nearly ten times. These improvements could support a growing number of connected devices and applications that require faster responses.

At the event in New Delhi, the telecom operator is demonstrating technologies intended to support future mobile networks. Alongside its Giga MIMO Radio, Jio has showcased a common baseband unit designed to support both 5G and 6G. The company is developing its own hardware and software and aims to contribute to the development of international 6G standards.

Jio’s 6G Technology Targets Higher Capacity and Lower Latency

According to Jio, its planned 6G technology aims to provide five times the network capacity of existing 5G systems. This could enable more users and connected devices to access network services simultaneously.

The company is also targeting a tenfold reduction in latency, which measures how quickly a network responds after receiving a request. Lower latency could improve real-time communication between connected machines and help artificial intelligence applications respond more quickly.

Jio expects these capabilities to support emerging uses such as holographic video calls, remote healthcare, digital education and AI-powered services.

However, the performance figures remain development targets. Actual results will depend on the final 6G standards, the technology deployed and how networks are implemented commercially.

What Is Jio’s Giga MIMO Radio?

The Giga MIMO Radio is one of the key technologies Jio is demonstrating at IMC 2026. The company describes it as India’s first technology of its kind.

MIMO stands for Multiple Input Multiple Output. The technology uses multiple antennas to transmit and receive data simultaneously, helping wireless networks improve capacity and use available resources more efficiently.

Jio has also developed a common baseband unit that can support both 5G and 6G. According to the company’s approach, this could allow parts of its existing network infrastructure to be reused as it transitions towards future mobile technology.

Jio’s Plans for 6G Patents and Global Standards

Jio says it has filed more than 8,000 patents across its technology portfolio, including hundreds related to 6G. The company also claims to have made more than 934 submissions to global telecommunications standards.

Its research includes AI-native networks, which use artificial intelligence to help manage network operations, as well as quantum-safe security technologies.

The broader strategy focuses on developing telecommunications hardware, software and intellectual property within India. By working on these technologies ahead of the expected completion of global 6G standards around 2030, Jio aims to participate in shaping the next generation of mobile connectivity.
