Pensioners need to submit a life certificate to continue receiving their pension benefits. The government has introduced an age-based schedule for submitting digital life certificates, giving different pensioner groups specific periods to complete the process.
Under the current schedule, pensioners aged 80 years and above can submit their Digital Life Certificate from October 1. Pensioners below the age of 80 do not need to submit it immediately and can wait until their designated submission period begins. The deadline for all eligible pensioners to submit their life certificate is November 30.
When Can Pensioners Submit the Life Certificate?
The submission process is divided according to the pensioner’s age. Those aged 80 years or above can start submitting their Digital Life Certificate from October 1.
Pensioners below 80 years of age do not have to rush to the bank at the beginning of October. They can submit the certificate during the period applicable to their age group.
The government has retained the November 30 deadline for submitting the life certificate and has not announced any change to this timeframe.
No Need to Visit the Bank Repeatedly
The digital Life Certificate facility has made the process easier for pensioners. Instead of repeatedly visiting a bank or pension office, eligible pensioners can complete the process using digital facilities.
Face authentication, biometric verification and doorstep banking services are among the available options. Punjab National Bank (PNB) has also advised its pensioner customers to submit their life certificates within the prescribed period.
For pensioners who have difficulty travelling, doorstep services can provide an additional option for completing the process.
How to Submit a Digital Life Certificate Through a Mobile Phone
Pensioners can use an Android smartphone with a 5-megapixel camera and an internet connection to submit their Digital Life Certificate using face authentication.
The process involves downloading the AadhaarFaceRd and Jeevan Pramaan Face applications. After installing the apps, the pensioner needs to complete operator authentication and the face-scanning process.
The required pension and personal details must then be entered. After that, the pensioner has to scan their face using the phone’s front camera. Once the verification is completed, a message will be sent to the registered mobile number. The message will include a link through which the pensioner can download the Digital Life Certificate.
Details Required for Digital Life Certificate
Before starting the process, pensioners should keep the following information ready:
- Aadhaar number or VID
- PPO number
- Details of the pension-disbursing agency
- Active mobile number
What Is a Life Certificate?
A Life Certificate, also known as Jeevan Pramaan Patra, is used as proof that a pensioner is alive. Its submission is required to ensure the continued payment of pension benefits.
The digital system has simplified this process by allowing eligible pensioners to complete verification without making repeated trips to the bank. Face authentication and biometric verification can be completed through digital facilities, while doorstep banking services are also available for pensioners who are physically unable to visit a bank.
