Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across major Indian cities on October 7, despite crude oil prices continuing to trade at elevated levels in the international market. State-run oil marketing companies have kept domestic fuel rates steady, offering some relief to consumers even as global oil markets remain volatile.

However, a prolonged increase in international crude prices could put pressure on India’s oil import bill and the margins of domestic fuel retailers. Here are the latest petrol and diesel prices in major cities.

In Mumbai, petrol is priced at Rs 111.21 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 97.83 per litre. In Delhi, petrol is available at Rs 102.12 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.20 per litre.

Among the cities listed above, Hyderabad has the highest petrol price at Rs 115.69 per litre, while its diesel rate stands at Rs 103.82 per litre.

Crude Oil Prices Put Pressure on Fuel Retailers

International crude oil prices continue to remain a key factor for India’s fuel market. Brent crude crossed the $100-per-barrel mark again on Wednesday amid concerns about possible supply disruptions following attacks in Saudi Arabia and a storm threatening oil production in the US Gulf.

ICRA has also flagged negative marketing margins for oil marketing companies on petrol and diesel.

With international crude prices staying high while domestic fuel rates remain largely unchanged, oil marketing companies could face continued pressure on their margins. If elevated crude prices persist, India’s import bill for crude oil could also come under greater pressure in the weeks ahead.

What Stable Fuel Prices Mean for Consumers

Despite Brent crude moving above $101 per barrel, petrol and diesel prices have remained relatively stable over the past week.

The rupee-dollar exchange rate is another important factor because India depends heavily on imported crude oil. A weaker rupee can increase the cost of crude imports and potentially put upward pressure on domestic fuel prices.

For motorists and daily commuters, unchanged rates mean there is currently no immediate increase in fuel expenses. However, petrol and diesel prices remain relatively high compared with previous years.

Consumers should also check local fuel prices regularly because taxes and other charges can differ between cities, resulting in different retail rates even within the same state.

Disclaimer: Fuel prices mentioned in this article are based on the rates provided for October 7 and may change depending on market conditions, taxation and revisions by oil marketing companies. Readers should verify the latest petrol and diesel prices applicable in their city before making any financial or purchasing decision.
