Passengers travelling on the Central Railway network this October should be prepared for stricter ticket inspections. The railway zone has launched a special month-long checking drive that will continue from October 1 to October 31.

The campaign will cover more than just ticketless travel. Railway officials will also examine concession tickets, specified reservation quotas, railway passes and unreserved tickets. Checking staff will verify whether tickets are valid and whether passengers meet the eligibility conditions for any concession or quota being used.

Original ID Proof May Be Required

Passengers travelling with concession tickets or under specified reservation quotas are advised to carry the required original identity document. Documents that may be accepted include Aadhaar, PAN card, passport, driving licence, voter ID and certain government-issued photo IDs.

A photocopy or a photograph of an ID stored on a mobile phone may not be accepted as sufficient proof.

For group bookings, at least one passenger named on the ticket should carry the prescribed original identity document. Failure to provide the required proof can result in passengers being treated as travelling without a valid ticket under applicable railway rules.

Rules for E-Pass, PTO and Unreserved Tickets

Passengers travelling on an E-Pass or Privilege Ticket Order (PTO) must carry the prescribed original ID. They should also ensure that the E-Pass or PTO has been properly exchanged or converted into the required travel authority before beginning their journey.

Railway staff will also inspect unreserved tickets during the campaign. Special attention will be given to checking their authenticity, with officials potentially using the TTE App to verify tickets while the train is in operation.

Ticketless Travel Can Attract Rs 500 Charge

Travelling without a valid ticket or authorised travel document can result in an excess charge. The minimum excess charge for unauthorised travel was increased from Rs 250 to Rs 500 with effect from June 20 under changes introduced through the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026.

As the special checking campaign continues throughout October, passengers should verify their ticket details before travelling. Those using concessions or specified reservation quotas should also make sure they have the required eligibility documents with them.
