LPG customers will face a new requirement from October 1, when biometric Aadhaar authentication (BAA) will become necessary for booking LPG cylinders. The process involves completing e-KYC, although customers who have already completed Aadhaar authentication will not need to take any further action.

At present, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is ₹942. There has been no confirmation so far about a possible price revision from October 1. The new Aadhaar authentication requirement is separate from any potential change in the cylinder price.

Who Needs to Complete LPG Aadhaar Authentication?

According to the Petroleum Ministry, around 89.9% of the 274.3 million active domestic LPG customers have already completed the required biometric Aadhaar authentication.

Customers whose BAA has been completed can continue booking LPG cylinders normally. Those whose authentication is still pending will need to complete the process before booking a subsidized LPG cylinder.

The authentication can be completed with the help of the cylinder delivery person through the OMC app or by visiting the concerned LPG distributor’s office.

Indane customers can also complete the e-KYC/BAA process themselves through platforms including IndianOil ONE, Bharat Gas, HelloBPCL and HP Gas.

Why Is the Government Introducing e-KYC for LPG?

The e-KYC requirement is intended to ensure that LPG subsidy benefits reach eligible customers. It is also aimed at identifying duplicate or ineligible connections and reducing the commercial misuse of domestic LPG cylinders.

The government has highlighted changes in the effective subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder, which was around ₹210 in September compared with approximately ₹721 in June.

Customers who do not complete BAA, whether by choice or because they are unable to do so, can still receive LPG. However, they will not be eligible for the subsidy. Such customers will have to indicate their preference through OMC digital channels, including the consumer portal, mobile application, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS.

How LPG Cylinder Prices Have Changed Over the Years

LPG consumption generally rises during October because of increased demand from households, hotels, restaurants and street vendors. LPG prices are also subject to revisions, with October 1 being one of the dates on which rates are reviewed.

Over the past 12 years, domestic LPG prices in Delhi have gone through several significant changes.

In May 2014, a domestic cylinder was priced at ₹928.50. During the subsequent period, the price declined to ₹490 in October 2016. In October 2014, a 14.2 kg non-subsidized Indane cylinder in Delhi cost ₹880. The price fell to ₹517.50 in October 2015 and then to ₹490 in October 2016.

Prices subsequently moved higher, reaching ₹649 in October 2017 and ₹879 in October 2018. The rate then declined to ₹605 in October 2019.

In October 2020, the price stood at ₹594, before rising to ₹899.50 in October 2021. LPG prices saw another major increase in 2022, with the Delhi price reaching ₹1,053 on July 6, 2022.

The price later declined to ₹903 on August 30, 2023, with the same rate recorded in October 2022 and October 2023. In March 2024, the price was reduced to ₹803.

Latest LPG Price and What Determines the Rate?

The price of a 14.2 kg non-subsidized Indane cylinder in Delhi was ₹853 on April 8, 2025, and remained at that level in October 2025. The price subsequently increased to ₹913 on March 7, 2026, followed by another rise to ₹942 on June 7, 2026. It remained at ₹942 through September 29, 2026.

International LPG prices are an important factor in determining domestic LPG rates in India. The Arab Gulf benchmark is used as a reference for international LPG pricing. According to Indian Oil, domestic pricing takes into account the average international benchmark from the previous month along with foreign exchange rates.

However, changes in international LPG prices do not necessarily result in an equivalent change in domestic cylinder prices. The government can direct oil marketing companies (OMCs) to maintain domestic LPG prices when required.

For example, in May 2026, Indian Oil stated that domestic LPG prices were not increased despite a rise in global fuel prices. This helped shield domestic consumers from the impact of higher international prices.
