The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has entered into a partnership with Augmont Gold Tech, a subsidiary of Augmont Enterprises, to support the growth of Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs). The exchange expects the collaboration to make the creation and extinguishment of EGRs simpler while encouraging wider trading of the instrument.

NSE launched EGRs on May 4, 2026, while trading in the new instrument began on May 18. Under the partnership, Augmont will provide technical as well as on-ground support for developing the dematerialised gold investment instrument, drawing on its experience across the global gold value chain.

How the NSE-Augmont Partnership Will Help

The partnership brings together NSE’s technology and liquidity infrastructure with Augmont’s experience across different stages of the gold ecosystem.

Sriram Krishnan, Chief Business Development Officer at NSE, said the collaboration is aimed at simplifying the creation and extinguishment of EGRs and making gold investment more accessible to investors across the country.

Ketan Kothari, Director of Augmont Enterprises, said the company wants to make the conversion between physical and electronic gold simpler, faster and more transparent for both investors and market participants.

What Are Electronic Gold Receipts?

As interest in gold investments continues to grow, policymakers have been working on dematerialised options that allow investors to participate in the gold market without directly holding physical gold.

EGR is one such instrument. It enables investors to invest in gold electronically while allowing smaller investments and providing liquidity similar to other securities held in demat form.

Minimum Investment and Physical Gold Redemption

Currently, investors can buy EGRs for as little as the value of 100 milligrams, or 0.1 gram, of gold.

EGRs can also be redeemed for physical gold. However, physical delivery is available only when an investor holds EGRs equivalent to 10 grams of gold.

What Is Augmont?

Augmont is an Indian company whose operations, core infrastructure and key customers are based in India. The company was established in 2012 by Ketan Kothari and Sachin Kothari.

Its gold and silver refineries are located in Uttarakhand and Mumbai. Augmont operates across multiple stages of the integrated gold ecosystem and provides services including digital gold, bullion trading and jewellery manufacturing.
