The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has officially listed both dates as trading holidays for the equity segment in its 2026 holiday calendar.
Stock Market Holidays in October 2026
The NSE and BSE generally remain closed for trading on Saturdays and Sundays. In October 2026, the weekend market closures will fall on October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31.
Along with these nine weekend holidays, investors will see two weekday trading holidays during the month.
October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
The stock market will remain closed on Friday, October 2, 2026, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
The NSE’s 2026 trading holiday calendar lists October 2 as a full trading holiday for the equity segment.
October 20: Dussehra
The market will also remain closed on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, for Dussehra.

MCX Holidays in October 2026
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) follows a separate trading holiday schedule, with distinct morning and evening sessions.
On October 2, both MCX sessions will remain closed for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. On October 20, the morning session will be closed for Dussehra, while the evening session will remain open.
MCX’s regular morning trading session runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, while the evening session operates from 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm or 11:55 pm, depending on the applicable schedule.
