Google has introduced Googlebook, a new range of laptops designed to combine the desktop experience of ChromeOS with the flexibility of Android. The new devices go beyond the traditional Chromebook concept, with a stronger focus on Gemini AI, Android smartphone integration and premium hardware.
The Googlebooks are expected to feature OLED displays, dedicated neural processing units (NPUs), premium materials and battery life of up to 14 hours.
Googlebook Price and Availability
The Googlebook range starts at USD 899, which is approximately Rs. 86,000. Models will be offered by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with each manufacturer bringing its own hardware configuration.
Pre-orders are available through the Google Store, Best Buy and selected retailers. Sales in the US are scheduled to begin on October 4, followed by launches in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5.
There is currently no information about an India launch.
Google is also offering one year of Google AI Pro with the devices. The package includes 5TB of cloud storage along with access to advanced Gemini tools. Buyers will also receive three months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop and other benefits.
Android Phone Integration and Gemini AI
One of the major features of Googlebook is its connection with Android smartphones. During setup, users can transfer settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages to the laptop through an encrypted process.
The Continue On feature allows users to resume activities on the Googlebook that they started on their Android phone. The Files app provides access to files and photos stored on the connected smartphone, while Cast My Apps allows Android applications to be displayed and used directly on the laptop.
Gemini AI is also integrated into several Googlebook functions. Magic Pointer brings Gemini capabilities into the user’s current activity and can help with tasks such as organising a calendar and translating text.
Another feature, Rambler, can convert spoken thoughts into structured notes with elements such as headings, checklists and highlights. Create My Widget allows users to generate customised desktop widgets simply by describing what they want.
Hardware, Performance and Security
Googlebook laptops will support Android applications through the Play Store, including apps such as Photoshop, Lightroom and CapCut, along with streaming platforms and Android games.
Depending on the manufacturer and model, the laptops can be built using materials including aluminium, magnesium alloy and carbon fibre. Some versions are expected to feature 2.8K OLED touchscreens, haptic glass trackpads and backlit keyboards.
The devices will use Intel and Qualcomm processors, paired with dedicated NPUs capable of delivering up to 45 TOPS of AI processing performance. This hardware is designed to support responsive performance while handling AI-powered features.
Security remains a key part of the ChromeOS platform. Googlebook includes features such as Titan hardware root of trust, on-device malware detection and an isolated Linux environment.
The Glowbar also makes a return, providing visual indicators for launch status, battery information and Gemini-related animations.
