Tata Motors is preparing for a significant expansion of its SUV portfolio, with two important models expected to arrive in 2027. The upcoming next-generation Tata Nexon will target the popular compact SUV segment, while the Tata Avinya X is expected to enter the premium electric SUV space.

The new Nexon is expected to bring a fresh design, a more practical cabin and Tata Motors’ ATLAS platform. The Avinya X, meanwhile, is expected to feature an 800V electrical architecture, dual-motor all-wheel drive and a driving range of more than 500 km.

Before these launches, Tata Motors is also preparing the 7-seater Safari EV, which is expected to arrive around October-November 2026.

Tata Avinya X: Premium Electric SUV

The Tata Avinya X is expected to sit above the company’s existing mass-market electric vehicles and will be positioned as a premium luxury electric SUV/crossover.

One of the key aspects of the model will be its underlying architecture. The Avinya X is expected to use Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA). The platform incorporates technologies such as structural battery integration, an 800V charging system and a flat-floor skateboard layout.

For performance, the SUV is expected to use a dual-motor AWD setup. Its range could exceed 500 km on a full charge. However, Tata Motors has not yet revealed the final battery capacity, official driving range or detailed performance figures.

Minimalist Interior and Advanced Features

The Avinya X is expected to follow a minimalist approach inside the cabin, matching its premium positioning. The interior could feature a free-standing infotainment touchscreen along with a digital instrument display.

Advanced technology could also include an AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display). The expected equipment list may further include lounge-style seats, a premium audio system and speakers integrated into the headrests.

The SUV is also expected to offer Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities. Final equipment specifications, however, are yet to be officially announced.

Next-Generation Tata Nexon

Tata Motors is also developing the next-generation Nexon, which is expected to arrive in 2027. The model is currently associated with the codename ‘Garud’.

The new Nexon is expected to be based on Tata’s ATLAS (Adaptive Tech-Forward Lifestyle Architecture) modular platform, which is also used by the Tata Curvv.

The new architecture is expected to bring improvements in crash safety, rear-seat legroom and the vehicle’s electrical and electronic systems. A cloud-connected electrical and electronics architecture is also expected to be part of the new-generation SUV.

New Nexon Design and Engine Options

The next-generation Nexon is expected to receive a substantial design update. Expected changes include split-LED lighting, a sharper tailgate and a revised glasshouse.

Although the Nexon’s compact dimensions make it suitable for city driving, Tata Motors could focus on creating additional cabin space and a more mature road presence. A boxier overall shape is also expected as part of the redesign.

On the powertrain front, the new Nexon is expected to continue with updated versions of the existing 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engines. Tata Motors may also offer its Twin-Cylinder iCNG technology.

With petrol, diesel and CNG powertrain possibilities, the next-generation Nexon is expected to continue catering to different types of buyers and driving requirements. However, final engine specifications and equipment details will be confirmed closer to the launch.
