FASTag users can now switch their issuing bank without buying a new FASTag or removing the existing sticker from their vehicle. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced OneTag, a FASTag portability service available through the Rajmargyatra app.
The new facility allows users to move their existing FASTag from one issuer bank to another while keeping the same physical tag attached to the vehicle. The FASTag ID linked to the vehicle also remains unchanged after the porting process.
How to Switch Your FASTag Bank
To use the OneTag service, FASTag users need to log in to the Rajmargyatra app and enter their vehicle registration number. The app will then check whether the FASTag is eligible for portability.
If eligible, the user must obtain a six-digit Mobile Verification Code (MVC) from the existing FASTag issuer bank. After verification, the user can select a new issuer bank and complete the required customer verification, KYC and wallet onboarding process.
Once the process is successfully completed, the same FASTag will continue to work with the new issuer bank.
What Happens to the Old FASTag Balance?
After the FASTag is successfully ported, the previous issuer will close the existing FASTag wallet and refund the available balance, after applicable adjustments.
The portability facility also comes with a six-month cooling period. This means an interoperable FASTag cannot be ported to another issuer again until six months have passed.
OneTag Covers Around 13 Crore FASTag Users
According to NHAI, FASTag has achieved more than 98% penetration, with around 13 crore NETC FASTags issued across the country. The OneTag facility is designed to reduce the need for repeated tag production, dispatch and reissuance when users change their issuer bank.
The service is part of NHAI’s efforts to make FASTag management more convenient while allowing users to retain their existing physical tag.
