FASTag has made highway toll payments more convenient for motorists by allowing toll charges to be collected electronically. However, users may sometimes face problems with their FASTag and consider moving to another bank. Earlier, changing the bank linked to a FASTag could seem complicated, but the process has been simplified through the Rajmargyatra app.
FASTag users can use the app to check their eligibility and select another partner bank without changing the existing tag. Here is a look at the process.
How to Change Your FASTag Bank
To begin, open the Rajmargyatra app on your smartphone and log in using your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP sent to your phone to complete the verification.
After logging in, select the OneTag option. You will then need to enter the required details related to your vehicle. Based on the information provided, the system will check whether your FASTag is eligible for a bank change.
If the FASTag is eligible, the app will display a list of partner banks. Select the bank you want to switch to. The chosen bank will then complete the required KYC and onboarding process.
Once all the formalities are completed, your existing FASTag will continue to be used, so there is no need to replace the physical tag.
Things to Check Before Switching Banks
Before starting the bank-switching process, FASTag users should make sure that their existing tag is active. It is also important to check whether there are any pending transactions associated with the current FASTag.
Users should also review the services provided by the new bank before completing the switch. This can help them understand the facilities available after the FASTag account is transferred.
What Is FASTag?
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable toll payments directly through a linked prepaid or bank account.
The FASTag is attached to the vehicle’s windscreen and allows toll charges to be collected electronically without requiring the vehicle to stop at the toll plaza. The tag can also be linked with platforms such as Paytm and PhonePe.
When connected to a prepaid account, users can add money whenever required. The minimum recharge amount mentioned in the provided information is Rs 100, and recharges can be completed online. Some toll plazas also have dedicated lanes for FASTag users.
FASTag Validity and One Vehicle, One FASTag
According to NHAI, FASTag has unlimited validity. To encourage FASTag usage, offers such as 7.5% cashback have also been provided.
In January 2024, FASTag collections stood at Rs 5,559.91 crore. NHAI also announced that from February 1, 2024, only the latest FASTag account would remain active. Under the One Vehicle, One FASTag initiative, users were advised to complete their KYC by January 31. Previous FASTags could otherwise be deactivated or blacklisted.
