Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi: Governments at both the central and state levels run several welfare programmes aimed at supporting women, farmers and economically weaker families. From Ujjwala Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana to Mudra Loan and pension schemes, various initiatives provide financial or other assistance to eligible beneficiaries.
Now, the Himachal Pradesh government is preparing to provide financial support to thousands of women under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi scheme.
Under the latest plan, eligible women from economically weaker sections are expected to receive ₹1,500 directly in their bank accounts on October 2. Around 2.5 lakh women could benefit from this assistance.
At the same time, the state government is preparing another major relief measure for poor households. Around 1.80 lakh economically weaker families are expected to receive the benefit of up to 300 units of free electricity.
What Is Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi?
The Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi scheme has been introduced to provide financial assistance to eligible women in Himachal Pradesh.
Women between 21 and 60 years of age who fulfil the prescribed eligibility conditions will receive ₹1,500 through direct bank transfer.
The ninth phase of the scheme is expected to be completed by September 20, after which the authorities will finalise the eligible beneficiaries.
Around 2.5 Lakh Women May Receive ₹1,500
Officials have reportedly received approximately 2.41 lakh applications following verification under the eighth phase of the scheme.
During the ninth phase, another 10,000 applications are expected to be processed. If these applications are approved after verification, the total number of beneficiaries could reach around 2.5 lakh women.
Once the verification process is completed, the SDM is expected to release the list of eligible beneficiaries around September 25. Following this, preparations will be made to transfer the financial assistance into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Women above the age of 60 who meet the required conditions are already covered under applicable social security pension programmes.
300 Units of Free Electricity for 1.8 Lakh Families
The state government’s support is not limited to women. A separate initiative is also being prepared to provide up to 300 units of free electricity to approximately 1.80 lakh extremely poor families in Himachal Pradesh.
Beneficiaries for the electricity scheme have reportedly been identified using information collected at the panchayat level. The Rural Development Department has compiled a database using details gathered from rural areas to identify families eligible for the benefit.
This initiative is expected to provide additional financial relief to low-income households by reducing their monthly electricity expenses.
₹1,500 to Be Transferred Through DBT
The Himachal Pradesh government is planning to roll out both initiatives on October 2.
After the verification of applications and beneficiaries is completed, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment will initiate the transfer of ₹1,500 to the bank accounts of eligible women.
The payment will be made through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This mechanism is intended to ensure that financial assistance reaches beneficiaries directly, reducing the role of intermediaries in the payment process.

Women who have applied under the Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi scheme should keep their bank and application details updated and check the official beneficiary list once it is released.
