Bank Holiday September 14, 2026: The festive season has started across India, and several states will observe bank holidays during September. With Ganesh Chaturthi being celebrated on Monday, September 14, bank branches in multiple states will remain closed.

According to the holiday schedule, banks will remain closed in several states on September 14 and September 15 because of festivals and regional celebrations, including Ganesh Chaturthi, Samvatsari and Nuakhai.
While branches will remain shut in the affected regions, customers can continue using digital banking services. Online fund transfers, UPI payments and ATM withdrawals will generally remain available.

On Monday, September 14, banks will observe holidays in several states because of Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesh Puja, Hartalika Teej and Varsiddhi Vinayak Vrat, among other local observances.
The states and regions affected include:
Maharashtra
Bank branches across Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Pune, will remain closed for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Karnataka
Banks in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka will observe a holiday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Goa
Bank branches across Goa will remain closed as the state celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi and related traditional festivities.
Gujarat
Several locations in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, will observe a bank holiday in connection with local festive celebrations.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Banks in various parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including Hyderabad, will observe a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Tamil Nadu
Bank branches in Chennai and surrounding areas will remain closed in accordance with the applicable regional holiday schedule.
What About Delhi, UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and West Bengal?
People living in states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and West Bengal should note that banks are scheduled to remain open on September 14, subject to the applicable local holiday calendar.
Bank Holiday on September 15
Banks will also remain closed in Gujarat, Odisha and Goa on Tuesday, September 15.
The closures are linked to different regional festivals and observances, including:
- Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha) in Gujarat
- Nuakhai in Odisha
- The second day of Ganesh Chaturthi in Goa
Customers in these states should complete branch-related work in advance if possible.
Bank Holiday on September 18
There will also be a bank holiday on September 18 in the Shillong banking circle.
Banks in this region will remain closed because of Seng Kut Snem, a local festival observed in Meghalaya.
Will Online Banking Services Work During Bank Holidays?
A bank holiday generally means that physical branches are closed, but it does not mean that all banking services stop.
Customers can continue to use several digital services, including:
- UPI payments
- Mobile banking
- Internet banking
- Online money transfers
- ATM cash withdrawals
- Bill payments through digital banking platforms
However, services that specifically require a branch visit, such as certain cash deposits, cheque-related work and some loan or documentation processes, may have to wait until the branch reopens.
