8. Your Friends & Neighbors — Apple TV
Coming in at number eight is Your Friends & Neighbors, which appears to have the toughest path to victory among this year’s nominees.
The Apple TV series has plenty going for it, and its second season earned an impressive 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, when compared with the overall strength and awards momentum of the other contenders, it feels like a less convincing choice for the top prize.
The show’s dark-comedy elements also make it somewhat different from the more traditional dramas competing in the category. Its 68% audience score further suggests that it has not generated the same broad impact as several of its rivals.
7. The Diplomat — Netflix
The Diplomat is one of the more established shows in this year’s competition, with its third season earning the nomination.
Across its three seasons, the political thriller has accumulated 10 Emmy nominations, demonstrating its staying power and strong reputation within the television industry.
Keri Russell leads an impressive cast, while the show’s tense storytelling and political setting give it a distinctive identity. Still, the series has not created quite the same level of awards-season excitement as some of the newer contenders, making a win less likely despite its deserving nomination.
6. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — HBO
The latest series connected to the Game of Thrones universe arrives with an impressive franchise pedigree. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has already won one of the nine Emmy categories in which its debut season was nominated.
The show’s biggest advantage is undoubtedly its connection to Game of Thrones, which remains one of the most decorated series in Emmy history with 59 wins.
The production also benefits from the enormous scale and visual spectacle associated with Westeros. However, fantasy series traditionally face a difficult battle in the Outstanding Drama Series category, and the competition this year includes several more conventional prestige dramas with stronger overall momentum.
5. Paradise — Hulu
With only two seasons under its belt, Paradise has already established itself as one of Hulu’s standout original dramas.
The series has received 10 Emmy nominations, with most of those recognitions coming for its second season. Shailene Woodley has also already won the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series award for her performance in the episode “Graceland.”
Strong performances, compelling writing and consistently engaging storytelling make Paradise a serious contender. Nevertheless, its chances of beating the four shows above it remain relatively limited.
4. The Gilded Age — HBO
The Gilded Age has become a reliable awards contender since its debut. Now in its third season, the HBO period drama has already collected an Emmy win and has received 14 additional nominations over the course of its run.
Its lavish production, strong performances and carefully constructed period setting have helped the series establish a reputation as one of HBO’s prestige dramas.
HBO’s impressive history at the Emmys also works in the show’s favor. However, while The Gilded Age has plenty of awards credibility, the three series ahead of it appear to have an even stronger combination of momentum and recognition this year.
3. Slow Horses — Apple TV
Slow Horses is the veteran of this year’s Outstanding Drama Series lineup, with its sixth season approaching. The nomination, however, recognizes its fifth season, which received a more divided response than some of the show’s earlier installments.
That could make the series’ path to victory more difficult, but its overall Emmy record remains impressive. Slow Horses has earned 23 Emmy nominations and two wins, establishing itself as one of Apple TV’s most successful dramas.
Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden and the rest of the ensemble continue to deliver standout performances, while the show’s sharp spy-thriller storytelling has earned a dedicated following. Even so, the competition at the top of this year’s category appears too strong for Slow Horses to claim the main prize.
2. Pluribus — Apple TV
At number two is Pluribus, one of the most impressive newcomers in this year’s Emmy race.
The science-fiction drama comes from acclaimed creator Vince Gilligan, whose previous work includes Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Gilligan has already won four Primetime Emmys, giving the series considerable creative pedigree.
Its first season has earned a remarkable 18 Emmy nominations, while the show has already collected four wins ahead of the main ceremony.
Pluribus has quickly become one of the most talked-about new dramas of the year and would be a highly credible winner. However, one competitor currently appears to have an even stronger case.
1. The Pitt — HBO Max
Our predicted winner for Outstanding Drama Series is The Pitt.
The medical drama enters the 2026 ceremony with extraordinary awards momentum. Its second season has received 25 Emmy nominations, while the series has already collected nine Primetime Emmy wins, including last year’s Outstanding Drama Series award over Severance.
Across its first two seasons, The Pitt has accumulated 38 Emmy nominations, with nine victories to its name. Those numbers alone make it one of the strongest contenders in the field.
Beyond the statistics, the series has earned praise for its intense and emotionally powerful portrayal of medical professionals. Noah Wyle leads the cast, bringing extensive experience in the medical-drama genre, while the show’s writing, direction and performances have helped make it one of HBO Max’s strongest recent successes.
2026 Emmy Prediction: The Pitt Looks Hard to Beat
There is certainly a case to be made for Pluribus and several of the other nominees, but The Pitt currently has the strongest combination of awards history, nominations, wins and industry momentum.
