Why Are Gold Prices Rising Today?
Gold has been attempting to stabilise in international markets after experiencing a sharp decline in the previous session.
Vedika Narvekar, Research Analyst – Commodities & Currencies at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers Limited, said gold was trading close to $4,330 an ounce after Thursday’s steep 1.8% decline. She noted that the precious metal was heading towards its third consecutive weekly loss.
According to Narvekar, two major factors are currently weighing on gold prices.
The first is crude oil. Brent crude has been moving towards the $108-per-barrel mark amid continuing uncertainty surrounding the Iran-US conflict. Higher oil prices can add to inflationary pressure and influence expectations around monetary policy.
The second factor is US inflation. US producer prices rose 0.4% on September 10, marking their fastest increase since May and raising concerns that inflation could remain persistent.
Market participants are closely watching the US Consumer Price Index data released on September 11, which was considered an important economic indicator ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s September 14-15 meeting. Markets had been pricing in around a 70% probability of a rate hike.
West Asia Conflict Keeps Investors Alert
Geopolitical developments in West Asia are also playing an important role in global financial markets.
According to Al Jazeera, Iran-backed Houthi forces have taken control of Yemen’s entire Red Sea coastline following a rapid military offensive. Saudi Arabia has also temporarily suspended operations on its key East-West oil pipeline after a drone attack originating from Iraq.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun visited Nabatieh in southern Lebanon a day after the town was targeted by fresh Israeli air strikes.
The latest escalation follows the collapse of a 60-day ceasefire brokered by Washington and Tehran in June 2026. The temporary truce had been intended to protect commercial shipping and reduce tensions in the region. However, renewed missile attacks and threats against merchant vessels eventually brought the pause in fighting to an end.
Gold Remains a Safe-Haven Asset
Persistent geopolitical uncertainty has increased volatility across global energy markets. Such conditions often encourage investors to seek traditional safe-haven assets, including gold.
International gold prices, import duties, the movement of the Indian rupee against the US dollar and domestic demand all influence gold prices in India. As a result, changes in global bullion markets can quickly affect local gold rates.
With geopolitical tensions, crude oil prices and US inflation expectations remaining key market drivers, investors will continue to closely track international developments before making decisions related to gold.
