Hyundai is preparing to add another SUV to its growing India lineup, and the upcoming model could occupy an important space between the Venue and Creta. Expected to measure around 4.2 metres, the new SUV is likely to carry the Bayon name used in international markets, although its exterior design is expected to be substantially different for India.

Hyundai Bayon Could Get a Crossover-Inspired Design
Unlike conventional compact SUVs that typically feature tall and upright proportions, the upcoming Hyundai Bayon is expected to adopt a more crossover-like silhouette.
The approach could be similar to what Maruti Suzuki has done with the Victoris, giving the vehicle a slightly sleeker stance while retaining the visual characteristics of an SUV.
At the front, Hyundai’s familiar design elements are expected to feature prominently. The SUV could get slim LED daytime running lights, potentially with a connected appearance inspired by the Verna.

Other expected changes include redesigned door pads featuring circular grab handles and lighter-coloured upholstery that could make the cabin feel more spacious.
A champagne-gold exterior shade seen on one of the test vehicles could also point towards a new colour option for the SUV.
Interestingly, an ‘Auto’ badge on the front fender has also been spotted. This could offer clues about the automatic transmission options Hyundai may offer with the new model.
Hyundai Bayon Expected Engine and Transmission Options
The powertrain strategy will be particularly important because the Hyundai Bayon is expected to compete directly with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
The India-spec SUV is believed to use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Transmission choices could include a six-speed manual gearbox as well as a CVT automatic.
Hyundai could also introduce a CNG-powered version, giving the new SUV another advantage in a market where buyers are increasingly looking for fuel-efficient alternatives.
The final engine and transmission lineup, however, will determine how effectively the Bayon can compete in this crowded segment.

However, styling alone will not determine its success. Pricing, positioning, features and marketing strategy will play a major role in deciding how well the new Hyundai SUV performs in the Indian market.
With the Venue and Creta already established in their respective segments, the Bayon will need to strike the right balance between price, practicality, features and distinctive design to make a strong start.
