JSW Motors appears to be preparing for a significant entry into India’s electric and new-energy vehicle market, with trademark filings offering clues about the names that could be used for its upcoming models.
The company, which is also involved with MG Motor India, is reportedly planning a separate automotive venture under the JSW Motors brand. Its partnership with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile could bring several international vehicle brands and new-energy technologies to the Indian market.
JSW Motors Registers Six New Nameplates
Trademark applications filed by JSW IP Holdings indicate that the upcoming JSW Motors portfolio could include six nameplates:
- Dominor
- Adventura
- Urbanique
- Eleve
- Sereno
- Cadet
Among these, Cadet has reportedly been categorised as a 4WD SUV, while the remaining five names have been associated with new-energy vehicles (NEVs), including electric and plug-in hybrid models.
The classification offers some clues about JSW Motors’ future product strategy, although it is still too early to establish which international model will eventually receive which Indian nameplate.
Could the JSW Cadet Be the Jetour T2?
One possibility is that the Cadet name could be used for the Jetour T2, a 4WD SUV that comes with a dual-motor plug-in hybrid powertrain.
However, this remains speculation at this stage, as JSW Motors has not officially confirmed the model-to-nameplate mapping.
The partnership with Chery gives JSW access to a broad range of brands and technologies. Chery’s global portfolio includes names such as Jetour, Jaecoo, iCAUR, Exeed, Lepas and Tiggo, several of which have products or technologies that could potentially be considered for India.
Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5 and iCAUR V23 Could Arrive First
Among the vehicles that have already attracted attention in India, the Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5 and iCAUR V23 are expected to be among the first models introduced under the JSW Motors umbrella.
The Jetour T2 is particularly interesting because of its plug-in hybrid setup and four-wheel-drive capability.
It uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing around 154 bhp and 220 Nm. The engine works alongside a dual-motor electric system and a 26.7kWh battery pack, with the combined system delivering approximately 221 bhp and 390 Nm.
The powertrain is paired with a 3DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) system and offers an EV-only driving range of around 137 km.
Jaecoo J5 Could Get Multiple Powertrain Options
The Jaecoo J5 is another model expected to be considered for the Indian market.
The SUV is offered internationally with both petrol-hybrid and fully electric powertrains, and both versions have reportedly been spotted undergoing testing in India.
This gives JSW Motors flexibility to introduce the model with different propulsion technologies depending on market demand and regulatory requirements.
iCAUR V23: Compact Electric SUV in the Pipeline
The iCAUR V23 is another potential early entrant under JSW Motors.
The compact electric vehicle has already featured in patent-related filings, adding to speculation about its India launch.
The four-seater EV is expected to be offered internationally with a choice of NMC and LFP battery chemistries, giving buyers different battery technology options.
The iCAUR V23, along with the Jetour T2 and Jaecoo J5 EV, has also been showcased and detailed at the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show, providing a closer look at the products that could eventually make their way to India.
JSW Motors Could Build a Diverse EV Portfolio
The trademark filings suggest that JSW Motors could be developing a broad portfolio rather than focusing on a single vehicle category.
While the Cadet appears to be associated with a 4WD SUV, the Dominor, Adventura, Urbanique, Eleve and Sereno names have been linked to NEVs.
With Chery’s extensive international portfolio at its disposal, JSW Motors could potentially bring multiple electric and hybrid models to India in the coming years.
For now, the exact models associated with the newly registered names remain unconfirmed. However, the Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5 and iCAUR V23 appear to be among the strongest candidates for JSW Motors’ first wave of products in the Indian market.
