Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has continued to attract attention for his youthful appearance and remarkably consistent looks. Even as the actor has crossed the age of 50, fans frequently wonder how he maintains his skin, fitness and overall appearance.

Recently, his food choices became a talking point after he revealed that he avoids several popular foods, including dairy and bread. His comments have also sparked a wider conversation about curd rice, a staple comfort food enjoyed across South India, and how dairy-based foods can affect different people.

Mahesh Babu Says No to Burger, Pastry and Curd Rice

During an interview, Mahesh Babu was asked to pick between a burger, a pastry and curd rice. Surprisingly, the actor chose none of the options.

Explaining his choice, he said that he does not consume dairy and has also avoided bread for a long time, which automatically rules out both curd rice and a traditional burger. He added that although he generally stays away from such foods, he occasionally enjoys a sweet treat.

His response quickly caught the attention of fans, with many becoming curious about whether his dietary habits play a role in his youthful appearance.

US-based gastroenterologist Dr Palaniappan Manickam, who is associated with Preventive Gastroenterology in California, discussed the actor’s dietary choices in a video.

According to Dr Manickam, Mahesh Babu’s emphasis on vegetables may have benefits beyond general nutrition. Vegetables are rich in dietary fibre, which can support the beneficial bacteria living in the gut.

These healthy gut bacteria play an important role in maintaining overall gut health and may influence inflammation levels in the body. This is where the concept of the gut-skin axis comes into the picture.

What Is the Gut-Skin Axis?

The gut and skin are closely connected through several biological pathways. A healthy gut microbiome can support the body’s immune and inflammatory processes, while an unhealthy gut environment may be associated with various skin concerns.

Fibre-rich foods help nourish beneficial gut bacteria. Maintaining a balanced diet that includes adequate fibre and protein may therefore contribute to overall health and potentially support healthy-looking skin.

However, this does not mean that avoiding one particular food automatically guarantees youthful skin.

Is Curd Rice Actually Bad for You?

Curd rice itself is not necessarily an unhealthy food. For many people, yoghurt or curd can be a source of protein and other nutrients, while rice provides carbohydrates and energy.

The important factor is individual tolerance. People who are lactose intolerant or sensitive to dairy may experience digestive discomfort after consuming milk-based products. In such cases, reducing or avoiding dairy may be appropriate.

Therefore, Mahesh Babu’s decision to skip curd rice should not be interpreted as proof that curd rice is harmful for everyone.

Focus on Overall Diet, Not One Food

Rather than completely eliminating a specific dish, nutrition experts generally emphasise the importance of maintaining a balanced eating pattern that provides sufficient protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Mahesh Babu’s diet may work for his individual preferences and requirements, but it should not automatically be treated as a universal diet plan.

The bigger takeaway from his food choices is the importance of understanding how different foods affect your own body. A balanced diet, adequate nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits are far more important than simply removing one popular dish from your meals.
